Originally from Highland Park, IL, Brian and his family moved to Scottsdale, AZ when he was 18 years old. His father, Elliott, and his grandparents on both sides, were all entrepreneurs, so it was only natural that he, too, would develop an interest in starting his own business.

  • Punkpost, an app that lets you send cards as easily as writing a text message - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

Lex Monson, co-Founder of Punkpost, an app that lets you send cards as easily as writing a text message joins Enterprise Radio. Punkpost puts the boutique card experience in people’s pockets so they can send cards when they want to, on demand.
Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Lex Monson discuss the following:

    * What is Punkpost and how did the company first get started?
    * Do you find handwritten cards to be a lost art these days?
    * Tell us how to get started with ordering a Punkpost card?
    * Punkpost recently got a face lift. Besides being a way for folks not to handwrite their cards, what are some of the main features?
    * Who designs your cards and how are your cards made, and how about the paper quality, what can one expect there?
    * If I were to order a card today, how long does it take to get out to a friend, family and loved one?
    * Is this where you see the greeting card industry headed in the future?
    * What is your advice to entrepreneurs who are looking to launch a new product? Are there any key takeaways you can provide?
    * Has there been any learning lessons for you along the way or things you would have done differently in starting Punkpost?

Alexis “Lex” Monson and Santiago Prieto are the husband-and-wife team that created Punkpost. It all began when Santiago was on a work trip to Boston, about to present to a room full of bigwigs. Before going into the meeting, a “Good Luck” greeting card arrived to his hotel from Lex. Santiago was touched by the thoughtfulness. Being from Mexico, where the mail system doesn’t work, he was amazed that you could send a personal message to someone on nice paper, with artwork, that even came with a cool stamp. It was magic. That same day he tried to reply to Lex with a card. He quickly realized that sending true mail wasn’t all that simple. He couldn’t find a card that wasn’t cheesy or stamps. He couldn’t even find a pen. It simply wasn’t possible for him to send back the effect he received. The two decided the boutique-card-store experience should be more accessible. So they quit their jobs and started building Punkpost. They’ve each handwritten thousands of cards and have built a community of scriptists and artists.

  • Lulabop CEO Mina Yoo, shares why mothers make the best inventors - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

Mina Yoo, CEO and Founder of Lulabop,  a lifestyle products brand featuring the Qliplet and Rolla Tag joins Enterprise Radio.
Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Mina Yoo discuss the following:

    * Why do moms make such great entrepreneurs – and taking that a step further – being great inventors?
    * How do moms turn an idea into a reality? Do they need to get their idea patented? Do they create a website?
    * What are the options for financing and invention or a great idea?
    * Is crowdfunding a viable option to everyone, or just for those with products?
    * What are the best methods for busy moms to juggle entrepreneurship and family life?

Mina Yoo is an entrepreneur who became an inventor by following through on an idea she had while training to summit Mount Rainier near Seattle, four months after giving birth to her first child. Both of these adventures – climbing and having a kid — required more hands than she had, so she reinvented the carabiner and developed a modified version featuring a clip and a rotating, folding hook. She called this the Qlipter.
After a two-year design, engineering and manufacturing process (with no prior knowledge in any of those fields), Mina finally funded and brought her idea to market via a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign – 1730 backers blew past her goal of raising $20,000 to ultimately raise more than $78,000 in 30 days, and setting her up for success in selling via wholesale. The Qlipter soon became available at major retailers, such as REI, and was nicknamed a “superhero” gadget by Outdoors NW magazine given its 5-in-1 functionality. The media love was strong: Seattle magazine said, “The life hacks are endless with this one.” There was more great press from Real Simple, Livestrong.com, Awesomer, and more.
Two years later, Mina improved upon her original invention with the Qliplet, a slightly smaller, sleeker version with enhanced functionality and a larger variety of colors, and funded it via Indiegogo, where she met her original goal within three days of launch and ended with nearly 700 percent in total funding and pre-sales. Mina is currently developing an energy harvesting to add to her line of active lifestyle products.
Mina is working on a book tentatively titled Be a Mother of Invention: How to Take an Idea from a Cocktail Napkin to a Killer Product, a sassy, savvy, entertaining how-to guide specifically for busy moms who may think they do not have the time or resources to take action on their product idea.  Mina aims to guide them through the do’s and don’ts of inventing and allow them to learn from and avoid the mistakes she made during her own process.
Mina received her BA in Sociology from Brown University and her dual PhD in Business and Sociology from the University of Michigan, earning globally the Best Dissertation Award in her field, as well as awards from the National Science Foundation and the Ewing G. Kauffman Foundation for her work on social networks and entrepreneurship.
Prior to founding Lulabop, Mina worked as a professor at the University of  Washington Foster School of Business and as Visiting Faculty Fellow at Stanford University. During her career as an academic, she taught Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior and Corporate Strategy to executives, doctoral students,

Her career is built on researching how people are motivated and developing effective ways for organizations to drive inspired performance.
Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Tamra Chandler discuss the following:

    * In How Performance Management is Killing Performance, you talk about the need for a total rethinking of performance management. But how have we gone this long with such a dysfunctional process? And how do you think it affects the workplace now?
    *  Do you have any special tips for how to design a performance management program that can inspire and motivate millennial employees?
    * What can employees facing a performance review learn from a performance manager? Can you give any tips from the “other side?
    * Let’s talk about the history of this process for a moment: how did we wind up with a performance management system that actually diminishes good performance and motivation?
    * You talk about the three common goals of performance management: to develop people, reward equitably, and drive organizational performance. But every organization is different. So what’s the best way to design a system that hits those marks?

TIP: “There’s no such thing as one size fits all. The goal should be a modern performance management solution, tailored to drive organizational performance, aligned with the environment and culture of the workplace, and created to support and engage its people.”
