Do you remember Aaliyah at the 1997 MTV Rock and Jock Basketball Game? She sang “If Your Girl Only Knew”

MTV Rock N' Jock is a television series on MTV featuring actors, musicians, and other entertainers playing sports with professional athletes. The original episode was called The MTV Rock N' Jock Diamond Derby, and was changed to MTV's Rock N' Jock Softball Challenge, in year 2. The concept expanded to include basketball in 1991, football in 1997 (and bowling in 1999[. The game was an annual feature (with multiple reruns of most episodes)for many years on MTV.

I thought it was cool that Aaliyah performed “If Your Girl Only Knew” live for the 1997 MTV Rock and Jock Basketball Game. I loved Aaliyah’s sporty fashion look. I think she wore the Niki Shoes. And with her music, she got everybody into the groove. I loved the way Aaliyah would step and move with her dance crew. I loved hearing her backup singers & hearing her lead vocals for the song.

There are great National Basketball Association career rebounding leaders like Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley & Dennis Rodman just to name a few.

It is said that Wilt Chamberlain is the undisputed king of the rebounds. A rebound is a statistics awarded to a player who retrieves the ball after a missed field goal or free throw.

A rebound player tips in a missed shot on his team’s offensive end. A rebound can be grabbed by either an offensive player or a defensive player. Rebounds are credited after any missed shot, including air balls which totally misses the basket and board. If a player takes a shot and misses and the ball bounces on the ground before someone picks it up, then the person who picks up the ball is credited for a rebound.

Great rebounders tend to be tall and strong. Some shorter guards can be excellent rebounders as well. I’m Gail Nobles and you’re listening to EPS.

Hello! I’m Gail Nobles on EPS. Today’s topic: Country Hoops.

They always talk about Streetball and asphalt, but I never hear about basketball in the country on the grass. Well, I don’t have to hear about it. I know about it. They talk about Dr. J at the Rucker Park and how he drew a crowd. How people were sitting up in the trees to watch him play. But when you play basketball on the grass surrounded by trees, it’s hard.

Guys and girls would come to my house to play ball with me and my brother. They were pretty good, but when you’re used to playing on a gym floor or on asphalt, it’s not as easy to dribble the ball playing on grass. And we tried bouncing the ball on the grass so much until after awhile, it got easier because the grass started dying. After awhile, there was nothing but a big circle of dirt where we bounced the ball the most.

Whenever we would try to shoot some hoops, there was a big tree over the basketball goal. It’s branches would block some of our shots. The branches were like long arms in our way, but all those obstacles trained us more how to play.

The film is about Joe Louis and his rise from poverty to becoming a heavyweight champion of the world.

Good evening. I’m Gail Nobles on EPS.
Today’s topic is Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. I’ve seen short clips of the first season. The series tells the story of the Lakers rise. I see celebrity in the film and what basketball days were like during the time of the Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar. You get to see what Magic and Kareem’s lives were like professionally and personally of the 1980s playing for The Lakers.

Winning Time is based on Jeff Pearlman’s book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s.

I’m amazed at the actors Quincy Isaiah who plays as Magic Johnson and Solomon Hughes as Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Quincy looked so much like Magic and Solomon looked so much like Kareem. Quincy played Magic well, and Solomon played Kareem well. When I first saw the preview of Winning Time, I was about to think it was the real Kareem and Magic. The film flashed back & forth to different scenes, and I had to get a harder and closer look. I thought, “Wow! What a movie!” They made it look so real. The other actors looked a lot like their characters too. They made the movie look like scenes from the real film.

I’d like to thank HBO website for allowing the first episode to be seen for free because I really wanted to see what the movie was about. It left me anxious to see the whole movie.

The real Magic Johnson had something to say about the movie, “Winning Time” according to the news.

He said, “You can’t do a story about the Lakers without the Lakers. The real Lakers. You got to have the real guys.” He said he refuses to watch the series.

Well, it would be neat if they added some of the Real Lakers to the movie later on. Like Magic and Kareem. I’m hoping to see the rest of the movie soon. I like what I have seen so far.

Hello! I’m Gail Nobles on Entertainment Podcasting Sports. I must say I was very nervous about last night’s game. It was Carolina and Duke of the NCAA tournament in the Final Four. I was hoping that Carolina would win. They are my favorite team, and they did win.

Duke was getting ahead of Carolina and Carolina was getting ahead of Duke. Carolina couldn’t seem to leave Duke behind because Duke kept catching up. I was so nervous for Carolina. Especially, whenever it was time for Carolina to go to the free throw line. I had my fingers crossed that they wouldn’t miss one shot. It’s important to make those free throws. At first, I thought Duke was going to stay in the lead, but UNC’s Caleb Love picked up the pace in the second half and led the game scoring with 28 points.

I wonder if Vince Carter, Antwan Jamison, Rasheed Wallace, and Jerry Stackhouse were watching. They all were great UNC basketball players in the past. I still think about them whenever I see Carolina play.

This year has been good to Carolina with a new coach, Hubert Davis. Before his coaching career, Davis played for NC from 1988-1992 and in the NBA. Carolina won the ACC against Duke in March, and last night they won against them in the Final Four.

Mike K. Is going to be missed. He is going to retire. Even though he did not win last night, he’s still the best and has made basketball history.

Hello! I’m Gail Nobles. Today’s topic is about a boxing movie, Creed 3.

People seem to really want to know about Creed 3. They want to know who’s going to be the next big villain. Don’t you just hate it when some secrets are kept about movies?

I’m hoping the next guy will be Clubber Lang’s son. However, some people don’t want the next movie to be about Clubber Lang’s son. Some people think it’s a bad idea. I think it’s a good idea since this will only be the third movie of Creed.

Sylvester Stallone will not be returning as Rocky and Michael B. Jordan is going to be directing the movie. I think Rocky should remain in it a little bit.

People are worried that the movie might be Sinclair to what Rocky did, but if Clubber Lang’s son is in the story, it’s still going to be a different story. Clubber Lang’s son is the son and not the father. The movie could be made more exciting than Rocky’s story. Some of the fans are not ready to let go of Rocky yet. It wouldn’t hurt to have Rocky around in the movie just a little bit. This is going to be Creed 3. Not Creed 10. To me, Creed is really just getting started. The idea of Clubber Lang’s son could make more of an exciting movie than the last two movies that were made.

It’s possible that a boxer could run into another boxer’s past opponents if they are all in the boxing business. Boxing fans also like to see the best fighters fight the best.

If Clubber Lang’s son is added to the story, it would be great to see Mr. T’s character Clubber Lang again. Some of us want to know what happened to him. He was a great character only in Rocky 3. He was a strong vicious fighter. If he is in the movie to train his son, then it would make sense for Rocky to stick around to give some training advice to Adonis. Some may think the idea of Clubber Lang’s son shouldn’t be. What do you think?

Today’s topic: Reese Goose Tatum on Entertainment Podcasting Sports.

Goose The Clown Prince of Basketball. But to me, Goose was more than a clown. He could do things with a basketball that you might not see today. This was a Globetrotter’s game, and he was a magician. Goose would pretend to throw the ball up, and the players would jump up while Goose still held the ball in his hand. He had fancy ball handling. Goose had a long hook shot but his first option was always a pass. He was a showman. The Clown Prince would run all over the basketball court as if he were going to play football? Goose was a negro league baseball and basketball player. He might would have made a good football player.

In 1942, he was signed to the Harlem Globetrotters and had an 11 - year career with the team. He later formed his own team known as the Harlem Magicians with former Globetrotters player Marques Haynes.

Goose Tatum wove numerous comic routines into his play, many of which achieved cult status. Some of these routines were based on his stature - at 6’4”. It is reported that he had an arm span of about 84 inches and could touch his kneecaps without bending. Goose is credited with inventing the hook shot. While playing for the Harlem Magicians, Tatum was billed as having scored the most points in the history of basketball, but the assertion is dubious.

In 1974, Tatum was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. His number 50 jersey was retired by the Harlem Globetrotters on February 8, 2002 and his name was placed on the Globetrotters' "Legends Ring" at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

State’s unexpected1983 title was one of the most memorable in NCAA history. I’ve been hoping that they would win the championship again though I’m not a Wolfpack fan. I miss the great competition there was between the Wolfpack, Duke, and Carolina. All three teams were on fire. But our college basketball days are a little different now.

The Wolfpack team that we have today is a Wolfpack with different players. They are not that team back in 83. The coach is not the same coach today. Things change, but there is still hope, and things can get better. The Wolfpack can win.

Actor: He misses! State has the lead! No good! NC State has won the Atlantic Coastal Conference Tournament Championship Game!

N.C. State is one of the seven founding members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Prior to joining the ACC in 1954, the Wolfpack was a member of the Southern Conference, where they won seven conference championships. As a member of the ACC, the Wolfpack has won ten conference championships, as well as two national championships in 1974 and 1983.

Jim Valvano was a great coach of the NC State team. He had a lot of energy and fought hard against coach Dean Smith of the UNC Tarheels and Mike Kryzewski of the Duke Blue Devils. Jim was diagnosed with a rare cancer. He left us in 1993 at age 47.

Actor: Jim Volcano’s words still live. North Carolina State can continue to win championships. They have a motivated person and are a team with a dream and a goal and a vision. There is great hope for the Wolfpack.
