In this episode of the EntrePastors podcast Jon and Les talk with guest Josh Vidor about his life growing up in serious poverty in the home of a pastor’s family.  While Josh’s experience as a youth didn’t drive him to a place of bitterness toward the Lord, it did have a tremendous impact on shaping his resolve that life would look different for him when he was old enough to earn money for himself.  At an early age Josh learned to see entrepreneurialism as a means to build wealth and avoid the struggles of poverty that he experienced growing up.  In our conversation, Josh shares truth and wisdom that challenge the common thinking among so many Christians today that glorifies poverty as an acceptable and even desirable status to settle for.

Who Not How is the second recommended book by Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy. Les shares from his and Jon’s experience of implementing the principles in Who Not How. Being successful isn’t only about business principles and strategies. Success is about the right partnerships and relationships. If you’re trying to climb a mountain, it’s wise to go with someone who’s already been to the summit. That’s what Who Not How is All About. 

In this episode Les discusses one of two books by Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy. The title sounds counter-intuitive, but 10x is Easier Than 2x is absolutely true. The authors discuss how to change your thinking and behavior to focus on the 20% of activity that’s leading to 80% of the results. Exponential growth only results in exponential thoughts and actions. The book isn’t about working harder; it’s about working with more focus and efficiency. 

Jon and Les have recommended The Prosperous Coach by Rich Litvin and Steve Chandler as much as any other resource. In this episode, Les talks about why they're so high on the book. It’s one thing to be able to coach someone, something that many pastors are great at. It’s something else to actually make money coaching. In the Prosperous coach, Litvin and Chandler discuss how to have powerful conversations with potential clients and how to have conversations about paid coaching without feeling salesy or needy.  

In this episode Les summarizes the impactful book, 48 Days to the Work and Life You Love by the late Dan Miller. Not only was Dan the personal friend and mentor of Jon and Les, his best-selling book has impacted thousands of people and helped them find meaningful and purposeful work. During the time of Jesus ministry here on earth, some of the greatest opposition he faced came from the leaders of the religious establishment of his day.  At one point, Jesus compared the Pharisees to “old wineskins” implying that they were too rigid to accept him.  Jesus could not be contained in their religious traditions and rules.  This new move of God that Jesus came to usher in would require new approaches, new traditions, and new structures.  As pastors, we need to be careful that we don’t fall into the rut of thinking and acting like “old wineskins.”  In this 4-part series of podcast episodes, Jon will unpack 4 observations about old wineskins and share insights on how we can think, live, and act as new wineskins, believing God for new strategies, mindsets, and tactics in a new season of ministry.
