Taylor’s doing really well in the USL Championship as a 22-year-old central midfielder. Playing for the RGV Toros, he’s leading the league in chances created.

In this episode, he chose to have a chat about the salary cap in Major League Soccer.

Because let’s not forget, this is not – as many like to say – “just a game”.

People’s opportunities, potential, and livelihoods are affected.

How the system is regulated, how contracts are structured, all of these things off the field end up determining whether a player, for example, is even capable of achieving their true earning potential.

Or in many cases, perhaps even most cases, end up condemning a player to economic purgatory throughout their entire careers, literally capped at a spot that does not match their sporting or business value.

So no matter where you happen to find yourself in the American soccer landscape, whether you’re a youth coach, a parent of a player, a fan, the media, anyone, anywhere at all, if you want to best navigate your path, it’s best to be educated on how even ecosystems that seem disconnected from you, disconnected from your current circumstances, actually work.

Because the reality, guys, is that they’re not disconnected.

And the sooner you understand, the sooner you learn, the better off you’ll be.
