I’ll be honest: last week, I had a meltdown trying to figure out my post-grad plans. Picture Kim Kardashian crying— yes that was a spitting image of what I looked like. Should I move to Boston to be with my friends? Stay home, save money and focus on content creation from here? Honestly, I still don’t know. But after some reflection and great advice, I’ve realized that the typical timeline of graduating, getting a 9-5, getting married, having kids, and retiring is just one of over 7 billion paths. There’s no set way for how our lives should go; we all have our own wants and needs.
Maybe right now, you should focus on building relationships while a friend is chasing her dream job. Our timelines are ours to shape, and there’s no one right way to do it!
We also need to remember that we’re still figuring things out. At 22, I’m really just a toddler in my twenties. You wouldn’t expect a two-year-old to have everything together, so I shouldn’t expect that from myself either. It’s all about embracing the journey.
I think everyone could use this reminder, no matter where they are in life. There’s no need to compare yourself to others. Don’t scroll through LinkedIn and feel bad if you haven’t found a job yet—everyone’s journey is different. And you don’t have to rush to find “your person” just because friends are getting married and starting families.
Give yourself some grace and focus on your own timeline. BRB I’m going to go listen to this myself and hopefully take my own advice!! Happy listening!
