First, let’s talk about identity and what this means when we come in to this reality and how it solidifies.
Identity is the concept of self that defines and differentiates an individual from others. It includes characteristics such as one's name, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, and personal beliefs and values.
The process of identity formation can begin in childhood and continue throughout an individual's life. In childhood, the development of a sense of self is heavily influenced by factors such as family dynamics, cultural and societal norms, and personal experiences. As a child grows and experiences new things, their understanding and perception of themselves and their place in the world can change and solidify.
During adolescence and young adulthood, identity exploration and experimentation are common as individuals seek to define and solidify their sense of self. This can include exploring different roles and identities, trying on different lifestyles and worldviews, and testing out different relationships and social connections.
As a person gets older, the process of identity formation may slow down, but it never really stops. Throughout life, people will still have new experiences and make new connections that can shape their sense of self, even as they solidify their beliefs and values. Some may continue to explore and experiment with different identities, while others may feel they have a strong sense of self and are more set in their identity.
