Kate interviews her friend Dr. Jerry Weichman Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and adolescent specialist as well as an author, speaker and parenting expert. His clinical practice at Hoag Hospital’s Neurosciences Institute in Newport Beach, California provides a window on contemporary teen and pre-teen behavior. He also founded The Weichman Clinic and its Teen Brain Program—the first and only truly comprehensive mental wellness program exclusively focused on children and adolescents.
Jerry was born with birth defects due to medicines prescribed for his mother during her pregnancy. He was born with a right foot with no bones in it, and a deformed left foot. Doctors amputated his right foot so that he could be fitted for a prosthesis when it was time for him to learn to walk. Despite this he went on to play Division 1 college football, and is an avid snowboarder, heli-skier, surfer and mountain biker.
He discusses resiliency.
