What does it take to keep showing up for your creative work year after year?
On this episode of The P.H.Y.S Podcast, I sit down with photographer, videographer, and YouTuber Brandon Talbot, a creator who has spent years openly sharing his photography journey while, as he likes to say, making "incredibly adequate videos for the internet."
Before photography became a central part of his life, Brandon built an impressive background as a professional volleyball player, NASM Master Trainer, and jiu-jitsu competitor. The lessons he learned through athletics—discipline, resilience, consistency, and long-term thinking—continue to shape the way he approaches creativity today.
Known for his honesty, curiosity, and willingness to share both successes and struggles, Brandon has built a community around the idea that growth isn't about perfection. It's about showing up, learning, and continuing to move forward.
Brandon is also open about living with depression, and throughout this conversation we explore the relationship between creativity, identity, mental health, and the challenges of maintaining momentum during difficult seasons of life. Rather than focusing on quick results, Brandon advocates for a sustainable approach built around patience, curiosity, and a commitment to the process.
In This Episode:
• Brandon's transition from professional athletics to photography and filmmaking
• How sports shaped his creative mindset
• Developing a growth mindset through photography
• Living with depression while maintaining a creative practice
• The importance of discipline, consistency, and patience
• Falling in love with prints and physical media
• Building long-term projects rather than chasing quick wins
• The role of curiosity in creative growth
• Learning to trust the process and play the long game
