In September of 2012, Toni Henthorn, a 50 year old ophthalmologist, fell more than 120 feet off a cliff to her death on Deer Mountain Trail in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. She was on an anniversary hike with her husband of 12 years, Harold Henthorn. Unbeknownst to Toni, Harold had obtained life insurance policies on his wife totaling millions of dollars. In 1995, 17 years prior to that event, Harold’s previous wife Lynn, also died a suspicious death by being crushed to death underneath their vehicle while her husband was changing a tire. Harold Henthorn was arrested and charged with Toni’s murder on November 6, 2014.
