Don't Blame The Mom

EP131: Colin Pitchfork 'The Pathway Killer' Part 2

Listen Later

Crime Talk Timestamp: 11:28 minutes in

This is the concluding part to our deep dive into the heinous case of British school girl killer Colin Pitchfork. After attacking, raping & killing 15 year old Lynda Mann in 1983 he left her body on a deserted footpath in Narborough, Leicestershire along with his DNA at the crime scene.

He then slipped back into anonymity, living his normal life & normal job for a few more years, scarily able to hide behind the facade of a normal family man with ease.

But in 1986 his strong compulsion to attack & kill took over once again when he murdered 15 year old Dawn Ashworth leaving her body by an isolated footpath again with DNA present. But this time, unbeknownst to father of two Pitchfork something had changed between his first & second murders.

Local scientists had pioneered a ground breaking new way to identify criminals using a brand new technique in forensic science, called DNA profiling.

This brand new technique that was discovered right before Dawn was murdered soon helped to rule out one young suspect who had already been incarcerated for this crime that he did not commit.

Then it helped to decipher who the real killer was after police learned local baker Pitchfork had deceptively paid a colleague to submit his own DNA in place of Pitchforks so he wouldn't be identified ....

Two young innocent girls lost their lives at the hands of a wicked, cruel, sadistic sexual predator before he was finally identified. Such was the strength of his sadistic sexual compulsions there was no doubt in investigators minds he would have continued to kill if DNA profiling not been used for the first time ever to identify him & put him behind bars.
