Dr. Jimmy Turner's entrepreneurial journey began when he started his own business called The Physician Philosopher. He initially started as a solopreneur, figuring things out on his own and learning along the way. He had to navigate the process of setting up an LLC, getting an employer identification number, and opening a bank account. Despite the challenges, he believed that there was nothing he couldn't learn if he put his mind to it.
In the first couple of years, Dr. Turner didn't pay himself a substantial amount from his business. In fact, he didn't pay himself at all for the first 18 to 20 months. He was working 60 hours a week as an anesthesiologist and putting an additional 20 to 25 hours into his business. He was working more after residency than he did during residency.
Dr. Turner's business initially started as a blog where he wrote three posts a week and sought out sponsors. Over time, it grew into something more. He wrote a couple of books, started a podcast, and even launched a coaching program. His focus was on helping physicians use financial independence to combat burnout and achieve financial wellness.
In February, Dr. Turner took a new step in his entrepreneurial journey by joining a venture capital-backed startup called Attend as a chief medical officer and co-founder. This marked a transition from running his own business to being a part of a larger organization. The growth and success he experienced in his own business led him to this new opportunity.
