  • Stretch to Fit Goals

Pharisees are famous for making holiness too complicated. But we can all identify with that—the draw to so thoroughly define your spiritual / life system that you end up drowning in red tape. Jesus calls us to a much simpler life. His desire is to stretch you without burdening you. We discuss the importance off developing a simple, manageable, and doable spiritual life management system on today's show.

  • Written Off and Glossed Over Mess

Why do we make life more complicated than it needs to be? It may be because the work of simplicity is subtle—especially when it comes to forgiveness and reconciliation. When we skip steps in God's plan for our relationships with others, we enter into complicated territory. Evan and Liz Frerichs talk about the important difference between forgiveness and reconciliation today.

  • Just Let The Wave Crash Over You

Ever feel like you can't catch a break? Like if you don't fill every moment with work, somehow you're letting yourself or those around you—or maybe even God—down? It's a full-time job staying ahead of that wave of overwhelm and, as busy as it keeps you, you're not really getting done the important stuff. We talk today about letting the wave hit so we can see clearly in the aftermath.

  • Who's Making Things So Complicated?

We keep trying to make spiritual rules concrete, but loving people is not as easy to define as that. Different people and situations change the outworking of love. God's greatest commandments are about love: Love God & love others. A lot of His rules are like that: simple to hear and then we make them complicated when we try to figure out how to obey.

  • Too Much Problem-solving & Not Enough Problem Solving

What's the plan, man? If it's too complicated, we won't do it, but if it's not robust enough, it's worthless. Today Evan and Liz Frerichs are taking about having a self-examination plan for your spiritual life and how this plan or system is important to monitor your faith's health—to notify us when we're drifting off the path—to prompt us to do the work of snapping back into the train tracks of our intentional life.

  • Getting the Help You Need

Now is the only moment when we can change. You can't solve the past or the future because right now, they're just memories and imagination. But now you can act on your responsibility to love. It's your job as an adult to love and seek the knowledge you need to make choices that further your consecration.

  • Show Up When You Show Up

We need you to show up and be involved. Your groups are counting on you—whether it's your church, your team, or your job. Show up when you show up—be present and invested in the group. Mistakes are going to happen when we get that close though and for that we continue to trust in the Gospel of Grace.

  • Our Foundation To Move Through The World: God's Love

Is your red face worth it? How did you get into this place of just doing the grind, pushing yourself all day every day? Or how did you become so complacent—figuring others will do the work so why bother? Both mindsets are disconnected from God's will and way. Evan & Liz talk today about more ways to hear and say 'yes' to God's call.

  • Don't Just Do Something, Stand There #Irony

Surrender means moving forward in God's power, not sitting back doing nothing! Surrender is saying "yes" to God. Surrender is asking God "what can I say 'yes' to today? My schedule is not working, and I need Your guidance." Surrender can be, sometimes, realizing that either good enough option is OK. We may not get a clear voice from heaven about which to choose. It can also be waiting instead of rushing ahead—only God can tell us whether we need to speed up or slow down.

  • Responsibility: It's Above My Pay Grade

"I yam what I yam" said Popeye the Sailor Man. You'll have more peace if you realize that too. You don't necessarily get the skills and gifts you think are best--you've been created by God specifically to do the good works He's laid out for you. You get into trouble when you start to reach beyond that and try to do someone else's work. Plus, when you do that, the work God designed for you to do goes undone.

About Epic Every Day

From the publisher's feed

We live in a world of overwhelm—not enough time, not enough energy, not enough money... the list of not-enoughness could go on and on. Most of us can only dream of finding margin. Most of us struggle to have time, energy, etc. to really fulfill God's calling in our lives, to be the people He's designed us to be. Without changing how we live, we will never find margin to thrive.
