There are so many ways to harm relationships—one big one is how often you check your phone even though you're with people. But there are also many ways to grow relationships, and we talk about some today. Things like vulnerability & letting others be themselves.

If we're not actively seeking God's approval, we will seek someone else's approval. But real courage to know others comes from our understanding of God's approval. Growing relationships also requires getting out of our comfort zones. Christians are not immune to idolatrous tendencies. If we're not careful, we can end up worshiping our own piety and that can also rob us of quality relationships in the Church.

If we're not ourselves with people we don't actually have a relationship. And we need to be reminded of who we are. God is the only one who can fill in that context—we get into trouble when we let others tell us who we are. It is possible though to create a track (or a center) to our life, based on truth, that can act like a home base to give us the security to be real in the world.

Relationships based on interrogation don't work very well. But relationships don't grow without asking some uncomfortable questions either. Remember, we're not surrendered to others, we're surrendered to God for our security. This opens us up to trust God to develop the relationship with others as He will. Boundaries are really important in a valued relationship.

Tell me who, who wrote the book on relationships? How can we as friend groups and families all make sure we're playing from the same rule book? Either way, I know I can't find calm on my own and I can't thrust calm on my fellows. We're all in this together.

Calling needs unity within ourselves and unity between us and our community. Today, Evan and Liz discuss ways to think about calling as it relates to our completeness—our total integration with ourselves and our total integration with our environment. God gives us our talents and gifts, but the working out of those is often surprising and creative.

It's way too easy to be too busy to connect to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Calling is always a group sport and it needs love. This is demonstrated in our culture by the church-hopping epidemic—for some reason we don't think we need to maintain those relationships in order to grow. We need to pursue calling together.

Mistreating pain by ignoring it or wallowing in it makes it meaningless—but God is in the business of recycling that pain into our calling. Einstein says that God does not play dice. If we really believed that, how much meaning would that add to our daily lives?

Calling is us living in the Slipstream--the channel God has designed us to move in. Fortunately, there's a manual with principles and instructions. God's call will pull us out of our comfort zone to do things that are impossible to do outside of the power of God. Calling also stretches us. Evan talks about overcoming stage fright, and Liz talks about never writing a perfect first draft.

Anxiety kills calling, fast. We're often so bogged down by our busy-list, we can't hear God's call. Even if we could hear the call, it would be overwhelming trying to do that in addition to everything else. But if that busywork isn't in line with calling, it's got to go.
