  • The Graciousness of Grace

Denial prevents growth. Secrets weaken us. God is calling us to an abundant and free life away from addictions—away from vices that only act as pacifiers but never allow us to grow spiritually or personally. We need to let go of past and future anxiety because God just gives us grace for today.

  • The Sinfulness of Sin

We've heard too much about open secrets in the news lately. Addiction tends to be a secret – either from everyone around us or from our very selves. Even if we flaunt addictive behavior like a food addiction, it prevents our friends from talking to us about it in any meaningful way.

  • Surrender is Inevitable

Too often we don't see God rightly. For some reason we think He's a taker, wanting more and more control, demanding surrender. But in reality He wants to give freedom, ironically, through our surrendering control to Him. Addicts can't understand this even though they surrender the control of their life to the drug. Moving in obedience instead of rebellion does great battle against addictions. 2 Tim 2:20-21

  • Vices Are Fake Calm

Growing up is traumatic, and trauma—anything your brain is not equipped to handle—makes and breaks neural pathways. Often, our childish ways of managing stress stick around into adulthood—these are addictions! They can be so native that they're invisible to us. But Christians must take inventory of these coping mechanisms and turn them over to God to find true peace.

About Epic Every Day

From the publisher's feed

We live in a world of overwhelm—not enough time, not enough energy, not enough money... the list of not-enoughness could go on and on. Most of us can only dream of finding margin. Most of us struggle to have time, energy, etc. to really fulfill God's calling in our lives, to be the people He's designed us to be. Without changing how we live, we will never find margin to thrive.
