Father Joseph Christensen, FMI, established the Franciscans of Mary Immaculate in 2011 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo, North Dakota. He is the Chaplain/Spiritual Director for St. Gianna’s Maternity Home also located in Warsaw, ND. Ordained in 1997 in Fargo, ND, he hails from Essexville, Michigan. As a Franciscan, Father Joseph is dedicated to the writings of St. Maximilian Kolbe and his Marian Total Consecration, and he also offers parish missions, retreats, days of recollection, spiritual direction, and Third Order Secular group facilitation along with his apostolic work at St. Gianna's Maternity Home in Warsaw, ND.

Fr. Jon Bokuniewicz is a priest of the Diocese of Lansing. He was ordained to the priesthood last summer on June 14th and currently serves as parochial vicar at St. Gerard Parish in Lansing. He is passionate about helping people encounter Jesus Christ through the sacraments, prayer, Scripture, and the life of the Church, especially through preaching and breaking open God’s Word in a way that leads people into a deeper relationship with the Lord.

Sr. Catherine Holum, CFR grew up in a Catholic home in Wisconsin spending most of her childhood at the ice rink where her mother was a speedskating coach. During middle school and high school, she competed on a national and international level with the U.S. Speedskating team. Sr. Catherine first felt a call to be a sister while on a pilgrimage to Fatima at age sixteen. A year later she competed in the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in speedskating, placing 6th in the 3000 m. and 7th in the 5000 m.

Deciding to pursue a degree in art instead of a future in sports, she studied photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Following her graduation in 2002, she did a pro-life walk across America which brought her to World Youth Day in Toronto. Her call to religious life which she received in Fatima as a teenager was rekindled that summer. Following a year of prayerful discernment, Sr. Catherine entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal in 2003 and professed final vows in 2010 in the Bronx, NY. Having spent ten years in the sisters’ mission in Leeds, England, she now resides at Our Lady Queen of Angels Convent in East Harlem, New York where she currently serves as postulant directress.

Detroit Catholic: Archbishop’s Gala returning to ‘hallowed grounds’ of Saint John’s Resort on June 4

Patrons and supporters of Sacred Heart Major Seminary can look forward to a change of scenery for the 2026 Archbishop’s Gala, the annual fundraiser that supports the seminary’s mission to form future ordained and lay leaders to serve the people and parishes of the Archdiocese of Detroit and beyond.

The Gala will be held on the evening of Thursday, June 4, in the Monarch Ballroom at Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth, after previous years’ celebrations have been held at Detroit’s Huntington Place.

Fr. Brian Meldrum is Assistant Professor of Theology and the Graduate Pastoral Formation Director at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. Fr. Brian was ordained in 2015 and served his first assignment at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish. Next, he earned a degree in Scripture at the request of Archbishop Vigneron.

Dr. Robert Fastiggi, Professor of Systematic Theology, has been at Sacred Heart Major Seminary since 1999. Prior to coming to Detroit, he taught at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas from 1985-1999. During his time at Sacred Heart, Dr. Fastiggi has taught a wide variety of courses, including Ecclesiology, Christian Anthropology, Mariology, Trinity and Christology and the Sacramental Life of the Church. He is also a co-author of “Virgin, Mother, Queen: Encountering Mary in Time and Tradition.”
