In 2018 the AFL is a juggernaut, and over the last 25 years it been more a less an uninterrupted incline.
But go back to the start of 1993 and things were not as clear and rosy. The great riches of the national competition were not yet realised – the Bears and Swans were perennial problem children while in Melbourne a string of clubs had held public appeals to keep them afloat.
While the clubs all had their own battles and dramas to deal with, head office looked after the bigger picture – and finally in 1993 that big picture became clearer.
1993 is the year the league took off, so many seminal moments occurred that propelled the success of the AFL. The Chief Executive of the AFL was Ross Oakley and he joins us for The Greatest Season That Was: 93.
The Greatest Season That Was: 93 documents our contention that in 1993, footy was never better. Hosted by Adam Collins, Dan Brettig and Shannon Gill, this series is an in-depth exploration of one amazing season.
The Greatest Season That Was: 93 is produced by Jay Mueller and edited by Thom Lion. Check out Bad Producer Productions for more podcasts.
