The week of December 6, 2023 on The Metallica Report…
Steffan and Renée do a deep dive into both the physical and mental iPods of Lars and Rob, as Lars shares more of his musical obsessions and Rob throws down his five favorite funk cuts. They also speak with Auburn University’s Professor of Music and Marching Band Director, Dr. Corey Spurlin.
The musical themed show kicks off with Lars and his deep dive into the heavier side of Lynyrd Skynyrd as he outlines his five favorite lesser known tracks from the Florida band. His other current favorite musical obsession? Warrior Soul, a band he describes as “in that zone zone between hard rock, heavy metal, but a lot of punk attitude and a lot of kind-of not giving a shit.”
To no one’s surprise, Robert is our resident funk-master and he gives us his five favorite funk grooves, including divulging that the Isley Brothers were his very first concert; it was the moment he knew he wanted to be a musician.
Finally we hear from Dr. Corey Spurlin at Auburn University, whose marching band has wowed us all with their half-time show entry to the For Whom The Band Tolls Marching Band competition. Corey tells us how the band chose the songs they performed and that Metallica’s performance with the San Francisco Symphony on S&M2 provided inspiration.
