On Thanksgiving day of 2006, the Mehari family gathered in their apartment to celebrate the holiday.  A little after 3 pm,  someone came into the apartment and shot to death Winta Mehari, her mom, and one of her brothers, and injured others. That, someone, was Asmerom Gebreselassie, who was Winta's brother-in-law. Winta had been married to Abraham, Asmerom's brother,  who passed away from natural causes in March of 2006.  You see, Asmerom believed that Winta and her family killed Abraham even though there was never any proof of foul play in his death.
