After a woman living in a hotel in Florida was raped, viciously beaten, and left for dead near the Everglades in 2005, the police investigation quickly went cold. But when the victim sued the Airport Regency, the hotel hired a PI to get to the bottom of it.  The main question…. In this episode we’re talking about a Mexican serial killer who rode freight trains across the U.S., Ángel Maturino Reséndiz. Media nicknamed him the Railroad Killer, and he was at one point the FBI’s most wanted fugitive.

The FBI linked Resendiz to 15 murders across several states in the 1990s — with only one survivor to tell the tale. Reséndiz escaped capture several times by being voluntarily deported back to Mexico, it would take the FBI and the Railroad Killer’s own sister to finally bring him down in 1999.

Despite its relatively low population, Antarctica has been host to some serious crimes over the years. Of course Antarctica has never had a permanent population, and its population is mainly made up of research stations that have been there for 100 years.  Although a few countries claim sovereignty over parts of Antarctica, it isn’t governed in the same way as the rest of the world. There is no police force, no judiciary, no prisons.

According to the Antarctic Treaty, 53 nations (it’s a long story) agreed that criminals on the continent should be tried by their own country’s laws and regulations. Today we’re taking a look at Antarctica’s short but interesting crime history!

On Feb. 6, 2021, Kevin Jiang, a 26-year-old Yale graduate, and veteran, was with Zion Perry, his fiancée. They went hiking and ice fishing, followed by dinner. Then around 8:30 p.m. Kevin left her apartment and headed home. He didn't even make it two blocks before he was struck from behind by a dark SUV in what appeared to be a minor fender bender. So Kevin got out of his car, to check the damage and exchange information, and it ended up being the worst decision of his life.

In 2012, Hollywood actor Johnny Lewis fell to his death from the roof of a home in Los Angeles. It happened just moments after he beat and strangled his landlady, 81-year-old Catherine Davis, to death. Lewis, who was 28 at the time of his death, fought two men after killing the landlady, before racing up to the roof of Davis’ home and falling/jumping to his death.
