Our Lone Star story of the day: Texas Democrats claimed that flooding disaster legislation should be the first priority of the called special session – then they left. Now, the disaster bills are ready for a vote and the sanctimonious Democrats are still gone, AWOL. More hypocrisy of the lowest order. (Much of the big bill, SB 1, is ineffective and simply ticks boxes of having done something.)
Paxton files to remove 13 of the Democrat AWOL legislators from office by declaring their seats “vacant.” It will be interesting to see where this goes with Abbott, Paxton, and Cornyn putting pressure on the issue.
Paxton sued Beto Pancho’s fundraising group for raising money to fund the Democrats’ breaking of quorum. A district judge, late Friday, agreed and issued a TRO against the O’Rourke group. My guess is that group will not stop at all, it will just change some wording and continue on.
