Episode 44 - Pashtana Durrani, author of 'Last to Eat, Last to Learn'

Listen Later

Welcome to Episode 44 of The Afghanistan Project Podcast,

where hosts Beth Bailey and Mikael Cook highlight the struggles of Afghans living under Taliban rule, and the efforts of individuals from a variety of backgrounds and political affiliations who have stepped up to provide support to the people of Afghanistan in the chaos that followed the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Our guest today is Pashtana Durrani, author of ‘Last to Eat,

Last to Learn,’ and the founder of LEARN Afghanistan, an NGO that provides learning opportunities to girls who lack access to traditional education.

Pashtana and Beth talked about ‘Last to Eat, Last to Learn,’

including the young women who inspired Pashtana to gain an education but leave behind hopes of attending Oxford University’s preparatory program in order to make sure that the education promised by the Afghan government reached the girls in the lands where the Taliban wanted to ensure no education took place.

We discussed Pashtana’s journey to creating LEARN, and the

unique struggles she faces today to ensure that the young women she continues to secretly educate become part of the Afghanistan’s post-Taliban future.
