這兩個字book 和reserve在很多地方都可以互用，意思差不多，都是表示預訂的意思，通常英國人用book來表示訂房、訂餐廳、訂票（機票、車票、看戲的票）而美國、加拿大是用reserve來表示訂房、訂餐廳、訂票（機票、車票、看戲的票等等），大部分的情境底下是可以互換的，不過有些時候某些用語會使用固定的字。
(一) book (v.) 訂房; 訂餐廳  
1. I would like to book a table for four. 我想要訂四個人的餐桌。
2. I would like to book a room for 2 people.  我想要預訂一間二人的房間。
3. I would like to book a flight. 我想要預訂機位。
4. The hotel is fully booked. 飯店已經全部訂滿。（這裡不太會用reserved）
(二) booking (n.) 訂位
1. I have a booking in the name of Cheng. 我有預訂座位-姓鄭。
2. Some guests cancel or postpone their bookings.有些客人取消或延遲他們的預訂。
3. You will need a credit or debit card to confirm your booking and make payment.
你需要信用卡或是金融卡來確認你的預訂並且付款。
 (三) reserve (v.) 預定; 保留
1. I like to reserve a table for two. 我想要預訂兩人的桌子。
2. Can you reserve a plane ticket for me? 你可以幫我訂飛機票嗎？
3. These seats are reserved for special guests. 這些座位是預訂給特別貴賓的座位。（這裡這不會用booked）
(四) reservation (n.) 訂位  
用reservation 代表預訂，常常這樣用make a reservation 預訂 。
1. I would like to make a dinner reservation. 我想要先預訂晚餐的座位。
2. Is Friday night still available for reservation? 星期五晚上還可以訂位嗎？
3. Most restaurants hold reservations for 15 minutes. 大部分的餐廳預訂保留15分鐘。
4. I would need your credit card details for further reservation. 我需要你的信用卡資訊繼續預訂。
理論上，聽完上面的解釋你會發現其實book和reserve 意思差不多，也可以互用，只有少數固定的情境不太會互換。好，我們來複習一下今天所學過的句子。
 
1. I would like to book a table for four. 我想要訂四個人的餐桌。
2. I would like to book a room for 2 people.  我想要預訂一間二人的房間。
