A: Hey, I still can’t believe what happened between Sarah and John at the party last night. Did you see that?

B: Yeah, I saw it, but let’s just drop it, okay? It’s not our business to spread rumors.

drop it

“别提了”、“不再谈论”或“停止做某事”。具体含义取决于上下文。

例句1：

I think you should drop it; it’s not going to work out.

我认为你应该放弃，这行不通的。

例句2：

Drop it, we’re not discussing this anymore.

别说了，我们不再讨论这个了。

例句3：

I think we should drop the subject; it’s making everyone uncomfortable.

我觉得我们应该不再谈论这个话题了，它让大家都感到不舒服。

Drop it, you’re only making things worse.

停止吧，你这样只会让事情变得更糟。

总结一下区别：

“Drop it” 更倾向于结束一个话题或活动，语气可能相对温和。

“Knock it off/cut it out” 更倾向于警告或阻止一个不受欢迎的行为，语气可能更强烈和不耐烦。

“spill it”意思是让对方有话赶紧说。

A: Hey, knock it off! You’re spilling water everywhere.

A: Cut it out, you’re making too much noise. 

别这样了，你太吵了。

B: Okay, I’ll keep it down. 

好的，我会小声点。

knock it off/cut it out

告诉某人停止正在做的事情，通常用于当那个行为是令人不悦的或者是不应该继续的时候。

例句1：

Knock it off, you two! Quit fighting.

你们两个别闹了！别打了。

例句2：

Knock it off, I’m trying to sleep.

别吵了，我正试着睡觉。

例句3：

Knock it off with the noise, I’m studying.

别吵了，我在学习。

例句4：

Knock it off, that joke isn’t funny anymore.

Cut it out, you’re being too loud.
