Escape Diet Prison by Anne-Sophie Reinhardt episodes

  • We’re All Hurting
In this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast, we talk about the fact that our pain doesn’t correlate with our size. Whether we’re big or thin, tall or short, conventionally beautiful or not - we’re all hurting and it’s time we begin to stop putting labels on who “deserves” to hurt more.

  • Reclaim Your Curves
As a world, we are so scared of fat.
    Terrified of it.
We have built a universe of mysticism and meaning around this natural oily substance on our bodies.
We have hyped fat up to such a degree that today this word is full of pain, terror and agony. But worse than the word itself is the experience of fat on your body. We focus more energy and life force on the fat we see than on our loved ones, our happiness, our life.
When we see fat, we see failure and disgust.
    We see laziness and sadness.
We see that we are not enough.
Well, it’s time to reclaim fat, to reclaim our curves and see them for what they are instead of what we make them mean.
That’s what we talk about in this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast.
We also share our favorite ways of getting to a point of embracing fat instead of pushing it away and fearing it on a hugely irrational level.
    Mirror Work
Don’t turn your head and instead force yourself to look again, allowing yourself to look beyond the surface.
Tap into the power of Archetypes
Archetypes are timeless metaphors that have been carried over throughout the centuries. They help us to see our struggles in a different way knowing that these are universal truths. Most of all, they support us in claiming our true power.
Some of the most famous archetypes are the Queen, Warrior, Lover, Whore, Dancer, Victim, Healer, Princess, Fighter, Saint, Guardian, Caretaker, Destroyer, Magician, Killer, etc.
I learned all I know about archetypes in my IPE training a few years ago and it has deeply transformed the way I live my life. If you'd like to learn more, join the Tribe and learn how you can embrace Archetypes yourself.
Start thinking of yourself as normal
Of course we’re being made to feel abnormal when we don’t look like skinny supermodels, but the truth is - and you’ll see it when you actually choose to see it - that we are normal (whatever normal actually is). There are more women similar in size and shape to us than we want to admit.
    Look at diverse photos
In order to call body diversity into your attention, actively search for photos of diverse models and women. Get comfortable with the idea that there are gorgeous women out there in your size (and I am not saying that beauty and size correlate in any way, but I know that this is what we are being taught to think!). Be sure to add the term art photography when searching for photos of heavier women.
    Play with your fat.
    Literally.
Touch it, create faces with it. Have fun with it and take the terror out o fit. That’s what I did and still do with Johann. He loves it when my belly button talks. It lightens the heaviness around our perfectionism and leads to what really matters: living a good life.

  • Thin People Have Heart Attacks Too
Bob Harper, the host of the super awful TV show The Biggest Loser, had a heart attack and everyone is acting as if it was just a case of poor genetics - when it could've just as well been his way of treating his body.
This hypocrisy - and the fact that it would've been a completely different conversation had Bob been heavier - is what we tackle in this Episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast.
We talk about Health at Every Size, why the way you look is not who you are, how the media would've responded if Tess Holiday had a heart attack and why we always make it about the weight.
My favorite Line of the Episode: Losing weight is a flawed premise.
Obviously, fake science is everywhere these days and the notion that being thin means being healthier and being heavy means being lazy and unhealthy is soooo devilishly flawed that only the beauty and weight loss industry benefits from it. Studies prove what those who pay for it want it to prove, so be super careful what you believe.
Here's the thing: Dieting comes from deep pain. It's understandable that you'd like to cover up the pain with weight loss, but 10 less pounds will never lead you to happiness or wellbeing. Of course, you can quantify weight loss, it's safe, you can't quantify wellbeing, which then feels uncertain. But wellbeing is where it's at. Trust me, I've tried both ways and the one that worked was focusing on how I want to feel.
So, how do you want to feel?
Do you want to overexercise, restrict, be in complete unbalance or live a good life being free from food?
Don't let the media scare you with false science and instead take your power back by focusing on what you truly want and desire for yourself.

  • Let Your Body Autocorrect Itself
It's quite understandable - at least in the bubble of the weight culture that our modern society has created - to freak out when you gain weight.
After all, we're being told over and over and over again that gaining weight is a moral wrongdoing, a personal failure and a lack of willpower. It's everything you don't want to be and everything you're definitely not. No thought is being wasted on the possibity that weight gain mightjust be your body autocorrecting itself or that it might point to inner turmoil, to some open wound that is desperately seeking your attention in order to heal.
To be clear, gaining weight does not make you a bad person. It does not mean you're stupid, lazy or any of the other insults people who are body fanatics like to throw around. Weight gain is just that: weight gain.
However, if you notice that your jeans are getting tighter or the number on your scale is climbing up (why are you still weighing yourself anyway???), you'll probably go into fight or flight mode and no matter how committed you are to the lifestyle of not dieting, most of us will think of and then go back to our savior: dieting.
The thing is that that is absolutely the wrong way to go about the change you so desperately desire. Instead of helping you out long-term, diets will work in the short-term and then come back to kick you in the butt: every single time.
Like Deb says in this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast: Diets are like an abusive friend you just won't get rid of. In our conversation, Deb and I tackle this difficult topic of believing that going back on diets will lead to happines and freedom from food.
We share that the belief of gaining weight once you stop dieting is a self-fulfilling prophecy and we talk about tools that'll help you to truly break out of diet prison.

  • Finding that "Other Life" – Real stories about finding freedom from food
In this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast, Deb, Leila and I talk about their stories of struggling with food and truly breaking free.
In honor of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, we share the ups and downs of living in diet prison, living our day-to-day lives in order to lose weight, control food and our bodies - all in the hopes of finding happiness.
My favorite line of the episode: How can you be brave if you think you're failure?
We also talk about feeling like we weren't sick enough to get help or feeling like a failure in recovery because we didn't do it right in the eyes of others and even our own judgmental selves.
We openly discuss the horrors of having an eating disorder, why eating disorders are still being seen as harmless, why losing weight is not the way to a glorious life and what really happens when you start to recover and heal. There's so much greatness in this episode, so go ahead and listen right now.

  • What else is there?
You are not your thoughts - even though it often feels that way.
Whether you do anything or not, your thoughts will appear. The automatic process of the brain will produce a random string of thoughts that, over time, form beliefs and then create your life.
    That is not you though.
    That's not your core.
    It's not your truth.
Knowing that is glorious because then you can begin to get to the real you; the you that isn't bound to early childhood conditioning. The you that isn't tied to beliefs that were formed by listening to the media or the beauty industry. The you that actually touches your soul, your heart and the parts of you that you'd never dared to reveal.
Meditating, tapping into your intuition, embodying your body, beginning to unbelieve are great ways to start the process of coming back home.
And that is what we're talking about in this week's episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast.

  • It Always Comes Back to Food
In this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast, Leila and I share the challenges of taking great care of yourself, leaving diet prison, being a mom, building a business and ,well, having a life.
The truth is that self-care isn’t always the easy choice. When feeling overwhelmed, stressed or like life is throwing you one curveball after the other, it’s easy to put self-care on the back burner. It’s just as easy to go back to old destructive habits when life isn’t going as grand as you’d like.
And that is why self-care needs to be a priority, even if it’s just taking one mindful breath a day.
The more we practice self-care on a constant basis, the easier it is to then go back to those habits in rocky waters.
We also talk about the book The Sell, how eating disorders evolve, why it's funny that mommy painted her face and how you can lift yourself up while breaking a part of yourself down.
