Although narcissists don’t change these character flaws, we can. We can learn, mature, and grow into healthy people. We all have flaws or woundings that result in some character weaknesses. Unfortunately those wounds are made bigger by unsafe people in our life and also by our own hands if we don’t learn how to heal those wounds and address the problems outside and within us.

We want to heal and be able to find joy, love, strength, and beauty in our life again. It absolutely can be done. And I want to discuss how we can recover faster. Being with a narcissist really messes up our mind and heart, so what can we do to get our sanity back so we can move forward? I answer the question “When do you know it’s finally over with the narcissist?” in the first 10 minutes (I think right around 6:00). The letter/response I read starts around 30:20. Today I want to talk about No Contact. The most important and effective tool you have in your healing journey is No Contact (NC). After that it would be Grey Rock, where you give no emotional response or reaction to the ex. But if you can go NC, that is best. Contact is a one way road. It gives the narcissist supply while draining you. Contact will open the door for the ex to enter again and possibly hoover you back. And if that happens, you will be in for another ride and possibly worse abuse. My hope for you is to get so strong that you won’t feel the need to contact the ex or let them back in again. It will happen, but you have to stay No Contact!

Today I want to discuss the potential for very bad relationship advice given by people swinging the pendulum too far in the opposite direction after narcissistic abuse. People who are earnestly trying to help, may steer you too far in the opposite direction and can cause further devastation. I’ve heard some advice that may protect you in the short run, but result in isolation years down the road. Or worse… the advice may make you as toxic as the narcissist you escaped. Some advice may seem wise or appealing at first, but be sure to think it through down the road a few years and imagine if this advice will make you a better person and fulfill you and your future partner. It’s important to anticipate the side effects of advice that seems too good to be true and especially advice to use people for self gratification. If what you’re doing isn’t good for the other person, it ultimately is not good for you two as a couple.
