Q: Why do managers pass on great ideas?
A: There are several reason why they may pass on your idea.
There are many variables which contribute to passing on an idea. It doesn’t mean that it wasn’t good. If you believe in the idea then ask your manager why they passed. It is an opportunity to learn how to better present your idea at a later date. Also ask your peers what they liked or didn’t like about the idea. It gives you additional insight to things you may have overlooked in your presentation.
Many times when someone passes on an idea there are circumstances behind the scenes that impact their decision. Your job is to find how the idea can benefit them, what objections will be faced but can be overcome, and when it will benefit them most.

Q: Why do more people follow than lead?
A: Many people who choose to follow don’t want the responsibility that comes with leadership. As a leader the buck stops with you regardless of the outcome. Being wrong or failing is scary for many people. Thus it is easier for them to follow and to let someone else make the decisions.

Q: Why does fear of change often times outweigh the pain of change?
A: It’s the fear of the unknown. Fear holds you still and places you as a victim. To break free know you have to be in charge of how you respond.
Identify all the different scenarios and how you would respond to each one. Many times when we start thinking through situations and the steps to how we would respond it changes us from victim to circumstances to victor by choice.
Until the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change, most people will stay where they are because of the fear of change.

Q: Do you need to be confident to be a great leader?
A: Yes. If you don’t believe in yourself and what you are doing, then why would others.
Confidence comes with experience. What do you want to be known for? Study your craft and practice it consistently. The more you do that the more confident you will be in your craft. When you are confident it is easier to show others the way and answer their questions. Leaders are guides who’ve been there before.
