Ahead of the RBI’s monetary policy decision tomorrow, sensex and nifty closed in the red on Thursday. The indices were dragged by FMCG, IT and metal stocks

Among Sensex stocks, Wipro, ITC, TCS, and L&T were the top gainers, rising 2-4%. Tata Motors, Nestle India, Infosys, M&M, and Reliance also ended in the green. On the other hand, NTPC, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, UltraTech Cement, and Maruti ended in the red.

From the Sensex pack, UltraTech Cement, Sun pharma, Airtel, and Wipro were top gainers whereas Indusind Bank, Reliance and Powergrid were the top losers.

Fed governor Christopher Waller has flagged the possibility of lowering the interest rate in the months ahead if inflation continued to come down. Traders are now pricing in a more than 70% chance of rates easing in May, compared with a 50% chance on Tuesday, CME's FedWatch Tool shows.

From the Sensex stocks, Tata Motors, Bajaj Finserv, and UltraTech Cement were the top gainers, rising 2-3.5%. Bajaj Finance, Airtel, NTPC, and Titan also ended higher.

Markets today closed marginally lower due to a drop in IT stocks after a recent rally and Asian markets being in losses. Sensex was down 48 points and closed below the 66K mark while Nifty closed below the 19,800 mark.

UltraTech Cement, L&T, Bajaj Finance, TCS, and NTPC were the losers, while IndusInd Bank, JSW Steel, Bharti Airtel, Wipro, and HDFC Bank were the gainers of the day

Sensex was up 92 points and closed at 66,023 while Nifty50 rose 28 points and closed at 19,811.

JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Titan, RIL, HDFC bank, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, axis bank were the top gainers whereas Tech Mahindra, Maruti, NTPC and TCS among others were the losers of the day.
