Nifty and Sensex both ended higher for the 5th straight session due to positive cues from global markets and strong earning season. Nifty crossed the 18,000 mark while Sensex ended over 61k-mark. The gains were led by the banking, financial, auto and IT stocks.

Raymond closed 6.5% higher as Godrej Consumer Products is in talks for a deal for its consumer care business. L&T Technology Services ended 8% higher after its March quarter results as well.

The indices were mainly led by banking, financial, auto, and IT stocks. Sensex rose 170 points and settled at 60,300, while Nifty surged 44 points and ended at 17,813.

From the Sensex pack, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv were the top gainers, rising over 2%. IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, SBI, ICICI Bank, and Reliance also closed higher. On the other hand, HDFC Bank, HDFC, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma, and Axis Bank ended with cuts.

India's 10-year government bond yields also fell to seven months low. The benchmark 7.26% 2033 bond yield was at 7.1163%, its lowest since September 13, and down four basis points from the previous close.

Down over 5% last week, Nifty IT was the worst sectoral performer thanks to the quarterly numbers announced by heavyweights TCS and Infosys. ITC, TCS, Wipro, Asian Paints and HCL Tech were the top performers, rising 1-2%. HDFC, Kotak Bank, Infosys and Bajaj Finance also closed higher. On the flip side, Tech Mahindra, Maruti, Tata Steel, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finserv and Tata Motors closed in the red zone.

Asian Paints, NTPC and Tata Motors were the top gainers, rising over 1%. Bharti Airtel, L&T, SBI, Wipro and Maruti also closed with gains. Whereas, HUL, Sun Pharma, Infosys, UltraTech Cement and Bajaj Finance closed in the red.

Sensex was down by 159 points while Nifty fell 41 points - Sensex ended at 59,567 and Nifty ended at 17,619 level.

BSE and NSE were mainly dragged by Reliance, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank. Sensex declined 184 pts and ended at 59,727 while Nifty dropped 47 pts and ended at 17,660.
