The last day of FY2023 saw a lot of buying across all sectors. This led to Sensex rallying up to over 1000 pts while nifty rallied and touched over 17,300 mark. Friday's upside made investors richer by Rs 3.45 lakh crore as the total market capitalisation of all BSE stocks went up 258.16 lakh crore rupees. Nifty Bank ended 1.75% higher and Nifty IT was the top sectoral gainer

The market cap of all listed companies on BSE surged by Rs 3.12 lakh crore.

Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors and Bharti Airtel were the top laggards, falling 2-3%. Wipro, Bajaj Finserv, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance and L&T also ended with losses. On the other hand, IndusInd Bank, Power Grid, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and NTPC ended with gains.

Tracking mixed global cues, Indian equity indices ended higher in a highly volatile market on Monday, led by index heavyweights Reliance, Infosys, SBI and HDFC Bank.

Given the downward trajectory of Nifty, March could be the fourth consecutive month when the index has given negative returns to investors. As we step into the new financial year, we spoke to Mr Sahil Kapoor, Head – Products & Market Strategist, DSP Investment Managers to understand the outlook.

Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance and Tata Steel were the top laggards, falling about 2.5-4%. Reliance, HCL Tech, SBI, L&T and M&M also ended with losses. On the other hand, only Kotak Bank, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Power Grid and Asian paints closed with gains.

Sectorally speaking, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty IT declined. Financials, media, realty and oil & gas stocks also ended lower. Nifty Midcap50 dropped 0.61% and Smallcap50 plunged 0.30%.

Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv were the top gainers, rising over 2% each. Sun Pharma, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, TCS and HUL also closed higher. On the other hand, NTPC, Axis Bank, Nestle, HDFC Bank, HCL Tech and Kotak Bank closed with cuts.

Reliance, Bajaj Finance, Titan, and Axis Bank were the top gainers, rising about 2-3%. ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv, IndusInd Bank and UltraTech Cement also ended higher. Power Grid, HUL, Tech Mahindra, Infosys and TCS ended with losses.

From the Sensex pack, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel and Wipro were the top laggards, falling about 2-4%. Tata Motors, IndusInd Bank, SBI, Tech Mahindra, and HCL Tech also ended lower. On the other hand, only HUL, ITC, Kotak Bank, Sun Pharma and Nestle settled with gains.
