The BSE Sensex index ended 215 points or 0.36% lower at 60,291, while Nifty50 fell 50 points or 0.28% to settle at 17,714

Most market experts agree that had it not been for the crisis in Adani Group stocks, Nifty would have easily made it past the 18,000 mark this week after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented a pro-growth Budget. So how good was the Budget for the market?

The severe crash in Adani Group stocks had a ripple effect on the domestic stock market today.

After rallying over 1,200 points riding on Nirmala Sitharaman's pro-growth Budget, the Sensex made wild swings and pared most of its gains to end 158 points higher. Nifty, however, painted a different picture as the 50-stock barometer, which includes two Adani stocks, ended 46 points lower.

The BSE Sensex index ended 49 points or 0.08% higher at 59,549, while Nifty50 rose 13 points or 0.07% to settle at 17,662.

Nifty has lost around 2.77% so far in the month but IT stocks have been an outlier. Nifty IT index is up around 4% in January.

Dalal Street investors were left poorer by Rs 6.8 lakh crore as the total market capitalisation of BSE-listed stocks dropped to Rs 269.7 lakh crore.
