Metal stocks were the top gainers following reports of China raising export duties to support their domestic demand, which is positive for India.

Sectorally, the Nifty FMCG fell 0.76% and Nifty Bank 0.61%. Metal, PSU banks, media, realty, consumer durables and oil & gas closed higher. In the broader market, Nifty Midcap50 increased 0.62% and Smallcap50 0.82%.

The Nifty50 index closed 68 points or 0.38% higher at 18,191, while S&P BSE Sensex rose 223 points or 0.37% to settle at 61,134.

Sensex ended 361 points higher at 60,927, and Nifty50 gained 117 points to settle at 18,132.

The market capitalisation of all listed companies on the BSE has increased by Rs 5.79 lakh crore to Rs 277.91 lakh crore.
