After a volatile session, the benchmark equity indices closed lower on Tuesday, dragged by banking, financial and auto stocks. The Nifty50 index closed 0.19% lower at 18,385, while the S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.17% to 61,702.

The 30-share Sensex ended 468 points higher at 61,806, while its broader peer, Nifty 50, ended above the 18,400 mark.

Nifty is poised to end 2022 as one of the world's best performing equity index but not all investors are happy as their portfolios are not reflecting the all-time high levels that the headline index is trading at. Many of the winning stocks of 2022 happen to be under-owned. One such pocket is the PSU pack. Is the rally too steep or justified?

The 30-share Sensex ended 461 points lower at 61,338, while its broader peer Nifty 50 ended at 18,250 level.

The 30-share Sensex ended 403 points higher at 62,533, while its broader peer Nifty50 ended above 18,600 level.

Sectorally, the Nifty Consumer Durables fell 0.91% while Nifty IT declined 0.40%, while Nifty Metal and Nifty PSU Bank closed higher. Whereas, in the broader market, Nifty Midcap50 surged 0.49% and Smallcap50 increased 0.34%.

Slipping below the support level of 18,500 points, the Nifty 50 settled 0.6% down at 18,496. The BSE Sensex closed 0.6% lower at 62,181 points.
