It was a winning week for Dalal Street investors after months of tumult in the markets. Domestic benchmark indices gained for the sixth day in a row, their longest winning streak in 2022, driven by buying in bank and auto stocks. FII's return to the domestic market and the rupee's resistance to tip below Rs 80 mark also lifted the mood on D-Street.

Domestic equity benchmarks on Thursday closed near seven-week high levels, cushioned by FII buying and private lender IndusInd Bank after strong Q1 show, while the rupee weakness continued to dent sentiments. Buying was seen across segments as most of the counters settled with gains.

The 30-share pack Sensex rallied 630 points or 1.15 per cent to end at 55,397. Its broader peer, Nifty50, settled above the 16,500 mark.
