The 30-share pack Sensex rose for the third day as it advanced 303 points or 0.56 per cent to 54,482. Its broader peer, Nifty50 added 88 points or 0.54 per cent to close above the 16,200-mark. For the week, the index advanced 3 per cent, its biggest weekly gain since May 20.

The bulls tightened their grip on markets, with benchmark indices scaling one-month peaks on Thursday, led by gains across sectors. The 30-share pack Sensex advanced 427 points or 0.80 per cent to close at 54,178. Its broader peer, Nifty50, rose 143 points 0.89 per cent and managed to close well above the 16,000 mark.

40 of 50 Nifty stocks closed in the green with 20 stocks rising over 2 per cent. From the 30-share pack, Bajaj twins, HUL, Asian Paints, Titan, Maruti Suzuki India, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Nestle were the major gainers.
