In some respite to D-Street investors, the benchmark indices finally managed to end their four-day losing run as Sensex rose over 300 points and Nifty managed to reclaim the 16,000 mark to pare some of this week’s losses. Most sectors and major bourses ended in the positive territory.

The benchmarks opened higher but failed to sustain gains in a volatile session, with 30-pack Sensex settling 98 points lower at 53,416. Its broader peer, Nifty50, declined 28 points to settle below the 15,950 mark.

The 30-share pack Sensex failed to hold opening gains and settled 373 points lower at 53,514. Its broader peer, Nifty50, declined 91 points and gave up the 16,000 mark.

Dragged by broad-based selling across sectors, the 30-share pack Sensex ended nearly 1 per cent lower at 53,887. The index settled below 54,000 after four sessions. Its broader peer, Nifty50, also fell by a similar magnitude but managed to hold the 16,000 mark.

On the back of healthy sales reported by real estate developers, a number of realty stocks rallied last week. Nifty Realty index rallied 5 per cent while Nifty inched higher by 3 per cent. Sobha Developers rallied 21 per cent, Prestige 9.5 per cent and Oberoi Realty 8 per cent during the week.
