McDonald Trail, located near Camp Verde, is short, but steep.  It leads to several explorable cliff dwellings.

Hikes in Camp Verde are a nice alternative to Sedona as there are not crowds of people.  This one includes a waterfall and a nice view.

Watching the sunset with a crowd of strangers, is not my idea of fun.  But seeing it set at the Airport Mesa while the moon is rising is pretty awesome.  I highly recommend this experience in Sedona, Arizona
