This week in eTown, California-based alternative folk duo honeyhoney makes a stop at eTown Hall to share their lush and beautiful sound on eTown’s solar-powered stage. New York City-based singer/songwriter Margaret Glaspy also brings in her unique take on guitar-driven rock songs, born from a lifetime of soaking up musical influences and knowledge from anywhere and everywhere her journey has taken her thus far. All of this, plus a great conversation about new alternative energy sources with former Governor of Colorado, Bill Ritter.
This week, eTown continues its long trend of featuring great musical artists with Oklahoma roots by welcoming Americana artist John Moreland for his first visit to eTown’s solar-powered stage. With his earliest influences and musical expressions coming from the worlds of punk rock and hardcore, John credits his switch to folk music after being influenced by the music of Steve Earle – a legendary artist and frequent eTown guest that carries an approach and attitude toward music and songwriting that could easily straddle both worlds in his own right. Also joining us is singer/songwriter and instrumentalist Phoebe Hunt. Plus, we’ll hear a great eChievement Award story about a California woman’s program to help women transition from prison to a productive life.
This week’s back-by-popular-demand broadcast/podcast features two long-time friends of the show for a musical check in at eTown Hall. Langhorne Slim first joined us in 2009, and is back in stripped-down fashion to share some of his latest musical explorations, as well as a few collaborations with eTown hosts Nick and Helen Forster and the eTones. Also with us is English-born, Nashville-based singer/songwriter Robyn Hitchcock who shares music spanning his long career, plus engages with Nick Forster in one the most humorous interview segments in quite some time. All of this, plus a great eChievement Award story about a group of women who have embarked on a simple plan to help protect people’s hearing at concerts and festivals.
In this week’s encore broadcast/podcast, eclectic Americana multi-instrumentalists Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys make their first visit to eTown’s solar-powered stage to share their forward-looking take on American roots music. Also joining us for the first time is Swedish/Icelandic female folk duo My Bubba who share their sparse and beautiful music, as well as stories about their experiences in circus school and side jobs as locomotive engineers. Lots of great music and conversation with our musical guests, plus we’ll check in with a Colorado-based advocate for bees to hear about their importance to our natural ecosystem.
eTown hosts Nick and Helen Forster welcome back singer/songwriter Drew Holcomb and his band – The Neighbors – to eTown’s solar-powered musical clubhouse this week. We’ll check in to hear some of Drew’s latest musical creations, and get an update on his musical story. Americana singer/songwriter and eTown veteran Tift Merritt also makes a return visit this week, plus we’ll hear from eChievement Award winner Stephen Ritz of Green Bronx Machine to learn about how he is bringing the joys of gardening to schools in his area.
