In this passage Jesus take aim at the Pharisees and some of the glaring sins. Let it be a warning to the church, that we might not fall into these same sins, and be brought to repentance in the areas where we have looked more like the Pharisees than Christ.

But the focus of the passage is not so much on the individual demon, but on the power and authority of Christ in the cosmic war that is raging on.
