  • Minute 42: Great Jumpin’ Scottodiles

    It’s Friday!
In Minute 42, Grandpa Joe finishes singing about golden tickets with a bang. Whatever our issues with him are, it’s certainly not his dance moves. Charlie’s got some steps too, and they make a pretty good combo act. Now that we know the date that the contest ended, we try and suss out when the contest actually started. Does Grandpa Joe try and kill Charlie yet again?
Also, for the record, we’ve recorded twice since this, and Jason has yet to use his new “catchphrase”.

  • Episode 41: R.I.P. Chuckles

Welcome to the middle of the week!
In minute 41, Grandpa Joe continues to sing while bounicing off walls, throwing clothes on the floor, and never really using the cane that he had Charlie get him. We have a discussion about Grandpa Joe’s assertion that he is “slap in the lap of luxury.” David discusses Peter Ostrum’s singing, and whether or not his vocals should have been dubbed. Also, what would’ve happened if the ticket had not allowed an additional guest to come along?
We’ll see you back here on Friday.

  • Episode 40: How Many Spiders Are In These Slippers?

    Welcome to a new week!
In Minute 40, Grandpa Joe sings “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket”, and starts to wander around the room. We try and break down exactly where Joe’s perspective is coming from in the lyrics of this song. We have a lot of problems with his selfishness (and hyperbole). Jason points out that after 20 years of non-use, Grandpa Joe’s slippers, which he demands, probably have spiders living in them.

  • Episode 39: Birth Control Glasses

In minute 39, Charlie shows off his man strength, hoisting dead weight Grandpa Joe to his feet, and Joe almost kills Charlie. Apparently, Joe has been laying in bed for 20 years just waiting for someone to help him get out. We think he’s just a liar. We posit a theory about how it is that Grandpa Joe’s muscles haven’t atrophied from disuse. Also, how does Mrs. Bucket feel about Grandpa Joe walking? How do the other grandparents feel, especially considering Charlie’s favoritism?

  • Episode 38: Goldschläger and Chocolate

Time for a mid-week sweet treat!
In minute 38, Charlie finishes his story, and Grandpa Joe reads the Golden Ticket to confirm its authenticity. Charlie expresses a wish to take Grandpa Joe on the tour, which, of course, leads to Grandpa Joe miraculously getting out of bed. David spends a lot of time expressing his sympathy for Mrs. Bucket. David also draws comparisons between Mike Teevee and Charlie’s grandparents.

  • Episode 37: A Very Special Episode

Welcome to your Monday pick me up!
In minute 37, Slugworth finishes his proposition, and Charlie runs home and tells his family about his good fortune. They don’t believe him, and he tells the story of finding the ticket. Does Slugworth’s offer come with conditions, like investing? What is Slugworth’s pitch to the other kids? We give our thoughts. Also, how creepy is Slugworth? This creepy?
Sorry…I think I just brought down the room.

  • Episode 36: Slugworth

    Happy Friday!
In minute 36, we watch Charlie run around Munich. Fun, right? After that, we meet the knockwurst serving, nut factory overseeing, car buffing tv reporter step out of the shadows and introduce himself to our protagonist. Jason sees some interesting meaning in the way a shot is framed, and blows David’s mind this time. We also discuss the idea that, with enough confidence, you can pretty much get away with anything.

  • Episode 35: Wincing in Anticipation

It’s time for your mid-week treat!
In minute 35, Mr. Jopeck saves Charlie from certain doom, brought on by some strange lady who thinks it’s okay to randomly grab the hand of a young boy she doesn’t know. Some people will do anything to even be near the prospect of fame. Charlie has finally found the object of his desire, which would make an old prospector happy! And once he gets away from the mob, heeds Mr. Jopeck’s warning, and runs home. Jason tries to lament the chocolate that is wasted, but is unable to get the words out, and a listener has quite an interesting conspiracy theory. Also, when does a gift actually become a gift?

  • Episode 34: Nazi Crooks

    Welcome to your new week!
In this minute, Charlie buys a second chocolate bar. When he gets outside, he finds quite a scene, with people crowding around the newsstand. Apparently the last ticket found was a fake. You don’t say? (#Nazis) Were goatees a thing in 1971, because there’s one guy with one, and he looks kinda out of place. Charlie finishes out the minute with a furtive glance, and who knows what’s next?

  • Episode 33: Excessive Throat Clearing

    Happy Friday!
Minute 33! Charlie finally gets to go inside Bill’s candy shop. He asks for a chocolate bar, and Bill expects to get paid. Wait…didn’t we see this guy giving away free candy a few weeks ago? Jason has a problem with the candy used as the prop. We find out that Bill is hiding candy. But why? Is there something larger at play here?
