  • Episode 32: An Early Version of Common Core

Welcome to the middle of the week!
Minute 32 continues Mr. Turkentine’s absolute abomination of a math lesson, which doesn’t really matter, as the kids won’t be tested on it anyway. We’re introduced to another student in Charlie’s class, Peter Goff, and find a little about his behind the scenes story. Charlie is made to feel really bad about his lack of Wonka bar opening, and Jason questions his integrity. Also, Charlie finds some clean dirty money.

  • Episode 31: Amateur Taxidermy

    Happy Monday!
This episode, we get to meet the young lady who made this whole movie (and this podcast) happen. Also, Mr. Turkentine confuses his class, and us. We discuss the birds on Mr. Turkentine’s table, and try and figure out why they’re there. Also, why is Mr. Turkentine’s piece of chalk so large?

  • Episode 30: Keep Our Chocolate Out of the Hands of Nazis

    IT’S FRIDAY!
We end the week discussing Mrs. Curtis’s dilemma, and a less impressive (sartorially speaking) Stanley Kael breaks the news that the fifth golden ticket has been found, and WonkaMania is finished. I blame Kevin Sullivan. Actually…I blame Nazis, as we do a deep dive on the picture used to represent the finder of the Golden Ticket, and David blows Jason’s mind, again.

  • Episode 29: A Chunk of Change

Here’s a mid week sweet treat for you!
This minute we discuss the auction that started in the previous minute. How much are those chocolate bars going for? We take a look at how ridiculous those prices are in today’s numbers. Not that it ends up mattering, since the Queen drops by. In another part of the world, a man has been kidnapped. What does that have to do with this movie? Well…you’ll have to listen to find out.

  • Episode 28: Rubbing Off on Grandpa Joe

    Welcome to your new week!
We begin this week talking about the last box of chocolate in the United Kingdom, or that’s what the auctioneer says. Jason thinks that Charlie is an oracle…or, at least, he thinks that Grandpa Joe thinks Charlie is an oracle. Charlie tries to keep a stiff upper lip, and Grandpa Joe comforts him with a very genuine hug. Possibly his most genuine moment of the movie. Also, there’s an auction.
During the plugs section, Jason’s audio went wonky, and he tried to give a shoutout to the Glengarry Glen Ross Minute podcast. Just wanted to clarify.

  • Episode 27: Al Pacino Is Not In This Movie

    Happy Friday!
We end the week talking about the parenting techniques of the Teevee family, and compare them to the Salt family. Stanley Kael is in this minute with all his sartorial splendor (see picture above). The hole in the map has been covered, and Jason takes it personally. Also, how does Grandpa Joe wake Charlie up, and why does he continue to keep chocolate gifts in the oddest of places?

  • Episode 26: A Habitual Disinclination to Exertion

It’s the middle of another week, and time for a sweet treat!
On today’s minute, we discuss the introduction of Mike Teevee (or Teavee, or TV, depending on your spelling preferences). Who are these ladies standing around? Does the Teevee family have maid service? Did Mrs. Teevee want them to bear witness to the glory that is Mike’s golden ticket win? What is Mrs. Teevee’s relationship with hyperbole?

  • Episode 25: Stalking Charlie

    Another Monday!
We begin this week with a shorter episode, because it’s 60 seconds of Charlie walking, and Mrs. Bucket singing. The camera follows Charlie in a very odd way…what does it mean? Has the Wonka spy network gotten bigger?

  • Episode 24: Charlie’s Long Walk

    It’s Friday!
We end the week continuing to discuss Mrs. Bucket’s song to try and cheer up Charlie…even though we’re pretty sure this song is non-diegetic, and he’s definitely not hearing what she’s saying. Charlie walks away from the camera, which is an interesting visual metaphor. Also, Charlie contemplates the direction of his life, as he strolls through town.

  • Episode 23: An Agent of the Man

It’s the middle of the week, and time for your sweet treat!
In minute 23, Mrs. Bucket tries to cheer Charlie up…by telling him that it’s nearly impossible that he would find a Golden Ticket. Also, she proves that, like Grandpa Joe, she really doesn’t understand statistics either. We discuss the world population in 1971, and we continue discussing how much desire counts in a contest based on random distribution.
