Yogi conversations that were too good to do on just one podcast.
An extension of our initial chat. Yoga teachers that flow together, grow together. We lift each other up, talk likes and dislikes (always from a place of love) and share our love of yoga.
Hi everybody! We are excited to introduce you to Glen.
Glen sits with us to discuss our favorite subject, yoga. The never-ending learning, the differences, the similarities, the community and family. How continued education propels us towards personal growth and evolution. We continue to grow together and are grateful for all of the knowledge accumulated along the way, it is limitless. #podcast #letsgrowtogether #yoga #yogateacher #community Part 1 of a 2-part series.
In today's fast-paced world, the fear of failure often holds us back from trying new things. Whether it’s the fear of falling out of a yoga pose or the anxiety of taking a risk in life, many of us struggle with the concept of failure. In this post, we dive deep into the significance of giving ourselves permission to fail, particularly within the context of yoga, and how this mindset can transform our approach to challenges both on and off the mat.
We believe that non-excess and non-possessiveness go hand in hand.
Non-excess = energy management. Finding balance in the things we do so it's not dictating our lives or that were not allowing ourselves joys in life.
Non-possessiveness = nothing is yours, it's all on loan. Nothing belongs to us. Not our families, not our jobs, homes or clothes on our bodies. We do not own or possess anything except for ourselves.
By finding balance in the things around us and how we can truly find joy and gratitude with it in our life leads us from not being entitled of its ownership. Managing our energy with friends, family, work, or even our yoga practice takes away our possessive nature to allow it to just be and enjoy it as such.
In a world filled with social niceties and the pressure to conform, the importance of truthfulness often gets overshadowed. But understanding and embracing truthfulness can lead to profound personal growth and healthier relationships. In this episode, we will explore the concept of truthfulness, or "Satya," as discussed in the Yamas, and how it can empower you when confronting yourself or others.
Ultimately, truthfulness is about authenticity. Recognizing your own feelings and being honest about them allows you to live more fully and connect more deeply with others. This journey may involve discomfort, but it is essential for growth. As you become more truthful, you'll find it easier to express yourself and create meaningful connections with others.
The 1st jewel of the Yamas. Non-Violence. This goes beyond hurting someone. Ahimsa is referring to not harming others or ourselves.
Is your schedule causing you to rush through your day, skip sleep, limit socialization or put the things you love on the back burner? You may be harming yourself by lack of sleep, hurrying through life and being short with those who mean the most to you.
Do you ever find yourself saying negative things to yourself and in return saying them to others? You may be causing harm to those around you without even realizing it.
Non - violence can teach us how to protect ourselves and those around us that have not learned how to do it for themselves. By looking within, starting with self we can begin to stop harming ourselves and then share this newfound love with everything around us.
Let's pause for a moment while you ask yourself, "what does not steal mean to me? Have I stolen anything before?"
Usually, the first thing that comes to mind is stealing an item from a store or a person. However, with Asteya we are talking about not taking anything that is not freely given. This can be from us, others, the earth or even the future.
You may sometimes find yourself looking at others in envy for what they possess, here you are stealing your own joy, peace, accomplishments. When we watch someone succeed in something and feel jealousy, we then steal their excitement and joy.
You may even find yourself living as there is no tomorrow. Taking from the earth and not leaving something in return. Not taking care of our bodies. Living in excess as if we need all this stuff. We are stealing from our own futures, our families' futures, and this amazing, beautiful planet we call home.
Once we become aware and mindful of our actions, we can begin to accept and honor ourselves, others, our home and our futures. Only then can we begin to live in Asteya.
Ok, ok, ok, I know this one is longer than usual. I just couldn't cut more out, it's all so important!
Over the years the emotional journey of what teaching is and has become deserves an episode of its own. Happiness, excitement and full send turning to fear, questioning and feeling like an imposter. At the end of it all, realizing Yoga Teachers are just messy human beings like everyone else. We aren't all gurus, masters of wisdom or live a life without downs. We are real, messy, authentic creatures that make mistakes, have bad days and work just as hard as everyone else to keep it all together.
This journey is not always easy, BUT it is a journey we would never go back and change to alter the past, present or future. This yogic journey, the ups, the downs, the lows and the highs are ALL worth it to get to share and experience this practice with all those around us.
It is SO good to be back! The Duo is back and excited to talk more about our favorite, YOGA.
We've been having some friends ask about what books could help them take their practice to the next level. Where to begin to understand their practice, on and off the mat.
Join us as I pick Courtney's brain on what books, and why, are good reads to understanding this beautiful journey. It's so hard to keep this podcast at a decent time length, we could sit here and talk knowledge ALL DAY!
Can you relate?
Amos and Ashley sit with us at the purple couch to talk about that yoga feeling. That feeling that keeps bringing you back, showing up on your mat and looking inside self. We talk about our experiences about what yoga has done for our mind, body and soul. Taking what we find on our mats out into the real world.
Ok, ok, ok. You got me. It's honestly just three friends sitting in one of our favorite places talking about one of our favorite things. Can you tell? But seriously, there is just something about what yoga brings into our lives that we just can't pass up the opportunity to chat about. So grateful they were about to carve out some time to come sit with us!
