Show Notes - Episode 1 - December 15, 2019
In almost every industry, the expectation of perfection paralyzes legions of people, often trapping them in a dreadful cycle of procrastination.
Keenly aware of the pitfalls of perfection and procrastination, we at Everyman BJJ simply dove head-first into our very first YouTube video, realizing we were going to make plenty of mistakes and leave ourselves vulnerable to a minority of armchair quarterbacks/keyboard warriors who leave riveting comments like, “You guys suck!”
But guess what? We actually put ourselves out there. We actually showed up, stepped up and got started, which is ½ the battle.
From this day forward, we endeavor to consistently create high-quality, thought-provoking conversations related to BJJ and MMA. At Ground Zero, we can’t help but recall something UFC commentator/Podcast Prodigy Joe Rogan once said of his early episodes… essentially referring to them as cringe-worthy and not very good. Like white belts sheepishly and apprehensively tip-toeing their way onto the BJJ class mats for their first class, here we are taking our first baby steps into a new and exciting space. It is a humble beginning loaded with promise and potential, and despite all of the warts and blemishes, we expect to steadily and swiftly improve and produce videos that are thought-provoking, entertaining, enlightening and create a ripple effect that sparks conversations in the larger BJJ and MMA communities.
As our name suggests, we are primarily BJJ-focused, and our engaging trio conveniently represents the broad demographic we wish to serve: Many 20-somethings might relate to Jordan Wirth, the highly unorthodox brown belt under Eddie Bravo’s 10th Planet System; ultra-experienced mat veterans might identify with Frank Forza, an award-winning journalist and 10-year BJJ black belt under Robert Drysdale; and lots of middle-aged working professionals could relate to Noah Green, a Manhattanite still trying to find his footing, fighting style and confidence on the mats (Noah, a forensic accountant and U.S. Marines Corps vet who has worked on Wall Street, is a blue belt at the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City).
Despite plenty of room for improvement, we still believe this episode is worthy of a watch and contains valuable, interesting and original insights. Some mistakes are easily fixable: For instance, Frank’s incessant eating of peanut butter on-screen is a huge no-no that won’t be repeated! Watch and feel free to offer honest and constructive criticism -- including what you liked!
With all of that being said, we hope you enjoy this week’s episode, subscribe to our channel and join our gradual ascension.
We are proud of Episode 1; Proud that we showed up and stepped up, proud that we’re hungry to learn from our mistakes. We will improve rapidly and invite you to join our celebration of this life-changing lifestyle.
