    Send us Fan Mail

    What’s all this fuss about COVID-19?  Spoiler alert: COVID-19 is not a flu. In this podcast we will discuss the reasons why.  We have an eclectic array of stories for our other segments and learn some new (creepy!) words like endocannibalism and anthropodermic bibliopegy.  Charlie shares our first segment of "Last Curtain Calls" with interesting stories of some very public deaths, including the story of the brave musicians that played while the Titanic was sinking.  You won't want to miss this!

  • Preparing to go to the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic

    Send us Fan Mail

    In this episode we talk about going to the hospital during this COVID-19 pandemic.  Visitors who have symptoms of COVID-19 are not allowed inside the hospital, so planning is needed for both the patient and family members.  The specific rules depend on the hospital and state you live in. Information that you need to put together before you go to the hospital is discussed.  We answer the question of how to know if you should go to the hospital.

    We also talk about an interesting concept called a doula for people who are dying.  We explain what a doula is, what services they provide, and how to go about getting one.

  • What is Palliative Care?

    Send us Fan Mail

    If you watch any newsreel of trauma or disaster, you will surely see somewhere a First Responder or volunteer draping a blanket over injured, wearied, or shell-shocked victims.  There is something healing in the simple act of draping this cloak around someone.  The word "palliative" comes from palliare - the Latin word for "cover" or "cloak."  Palliative care extends the same comfort to patients that the ubiquitous blanket does for disaster victims.

    Palliative care is the management of symptoms and providing comfort to patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families. This model of care starts at the time of diagnosis of any life-limiting illness and continues throughout the disease. This episode discusses the concept of palliative care, how it integrates with medical care, and the differences between palliative care and hospice care.

  • Why Do People Die?

    Send us Fan Mail

    Every living thing will die.  There are three reasons that people die.  It is because they are:

    1. Very very sick;
    2. Very very hurt (injured); or
    3. Very very old.

    This podcast discusses these concepts.

    We also learn the backgrounds of our hosts Dr. Marianne Matzo, FAAN and Charlie Navarrette, Death by Chocolate Cake, and the first of our segment In Flagrante Delicto Morto - or people who died during sex or other nefarious acts.
