Everything We Know About JOHN WICK 5

Listen Later

Lionsgate has officially confirmed that John Wick: Chapter 5 is in early development. This comes despite the apparent death of John Wick at the end of Chapter 4.

However, director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves are more cautious. While they had initially planned to shoot Chapter 4 and 5 back-to-back, they decided to focus on making Chapter 4 a satisfying conclusion. Both have stated they are "done for the moment" but are open to returning if a genuinely great idea emerges that doesn't undermine the impact of Chapter 4's ending. Stahelski is reportedly working with Lionsgate on figuring out what a fifth installment could look like.

Key points from the article:

  • Studio vs. Creatives: Lionsgate (specifically Chairman Joe Drake) is keen on another film and says it's in development. Stahelski and Reeves need a compelling story.
  • Plot: Unknown. It could involve John having survived, or potentially be a prequel, though the latter seems less likely given the "Chapter" titling. The main challenge is finding a story that justifies bringing John back.
  • Cast: Keanu Reeves' involvement is essential. If it's a sequel, Ian McShane (Winston) and Laurence Fishburne (Bowery King) could return. Shamier Anderson (Tracker) and Rina Sawayama (Akira) have expressed interest, and Akira's post-credits scene in Chapter 4 sets up her own story. Lance Reddick (Charon) sadly passed away, and his character also died in Chapter 4.
  • Release Date: No release date is set, as the project is in its nascent stages and depends heavily on creative development.
  • John Wick Universe Expansion: The franchise is actively expanding with spin-offs.
  • The Continental: From the World of John Wick (a prequel Peacock series about a young Winston) has already been released.
  • Ballerina, a film starring Ana de Armas (set between John Wick 3 and 4, featuring Keanu Reeves), is scheduled for release on June 6, 2025 (delayed from June 2024 for additional action sequences).
  • Other potential spin-offs, including projects focused on The High Table, Sofia, Akira, or the Tracker, have been discussed.
