What happens when you pull together Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub, Daryl Mitchell and more? You get the 1999 Star Trek satire: Galaxy Quest, and the cast does not disappoint. Your hosts Dan and Tyler learned many lessons while watching this movie and share with you their top lessons that you should take to the grave. Well, maybe. But if there was one lesson you should take away from this is: never give up, never surrender. Your hosts also dive into how such a cast would come together to do such a movie, and why it was named the 7th best film in the Star Trek Universe (at a certain point in time). What happens when one of the hosts of Everything We Learned doesn’t hit record for the first 30 minutes of an episode? This episode is what happens. Join Dan and Tyler as they discuss the far superior version of “The Mummy” with the 1999 classic starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Did you know people think that Dan looks a bit like Mr. Fraser? Well he kind of does and Brendan is one hell of a good-looking guy in this movie, so take what you will from that. The Mummy is jam packed with great action adventure, tomb raiding and a bit of subpar CGI but that’s forgiven because this movie is great. Many lessons were learned from this movie, specifically lessons learned from the supporting cast, cough, Beni and Jonathan, cough. They cover whether or not they would open an ancient container that specifically states that if you open the container you will probably die. They also cover the impact of Rachel Weisz’ character Evelyn and how she saves Rick’s life numerous times. We love this movie, and you should too. If you haven’t seen it then shame on you. Who knew rats could be such a convincing metaphor for the burden a man has dwelling inside him after murdering his wife? In the Netflix original movie, based on the novella from Stephen King, 1922 does a great job letting us know exacting that. In this episode, our hosts Dan and Tyler dive straight into the lessons learns from this visually appealing, not that exciting, and downright creepy movie. They try to figure out why Thomas Jane’s character goes from just simply not getting along with his wife to immediately wanting to murder her and how he enlists his son to help. Dan also lets us know why he does not like movies that start at the end of a story, but does have some good things to say about the narrator. If you have watched 1922, do you believe he is seeing things and making up a lot of what he is saying? Or is there actually something  supernatural going on? What do you get when you when you have a sociopathic 12-year-old face off against two burglars in New York?  You get the 1992 hit sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.  Don’t let the title fool you, Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) knows exactly where he is going at all times. In this episode, our hosts Dan and Tyler dive into what it would actually take to survive against two burglars who are literally trying to murder you, how a Talkboy wouldn’t actually work as well as Kevin used it, and why plans/burglars should always have names. Dan discusses why Rob Schneider and Tim Curry are probably his favorite characters and valuable life lessons he learned from the Wet Bandits, now known as the Sticky Bandits. Tyler delves into why Joe Pesci is once again amazing, why you should always celebrate the little victories, and questions why there are so many open stain/shellac cans outside of an apartment building in the middle of winter.  Also, they discuss why Kevin is an asshole and believes the holidays revolve around him. When you suggest a movie, and find out that it is not the movie you were thinking of, you get the 1979 movie Phantasm. Join hosts Dan and Tyler as they discuss their lessons learned, if the title matches the contents of the movie, and the awkward Tall Man transformations. This one is crazy, folks. There are flying metallic spheres that drill into victims’ heads, Jawa like creatures that are slaves to the Tall Man, and a ridiculous number of guns. Then there is Reggie, an ice cream truck man with a sick nasty 1970s ponytail and sideburns. We still can’t get over his hair choice. Fun fact: there are five movies in this series and the latest one came out in 2016! Reggie and Mike are still going strong and still hunting the tall man. Do they finally take him down? Let’s hope so because Tyler doesn’t think we need any more of these damn movies. Spoiler alert, Reggie still has a ponytail. What do you get when you let a director and a writer have free rein with their next movie? You get one hell of a funny movie: Hot Fuzz. Written by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, and directed by Edgar Wright, Hot Fuzz is a tale of a skilled London police officer who is transferred to a small town that is harboring a dark secret. Determined to figure out if all the accidental deaths happening in town are in fact murders, Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) goes on a conspiracy spree to take down whoever is responsible. Our hosts Dan and Tyler deliver many great lessons you can learn from this movie. Tyler’s is a pretty decent lesson this time around, so be sure to take a listen. They’ll cover the multitude of great actors in this movie, how wonderfully put together the dialogue is, and they’ll discuss their favorite death. Spoilers, their favorite death is the same! Would you choose to have your child genetically engineered to be perfect and designed pretty much only to man spaceships? After watching the 1997 film, Gattaca, Dan and Tyler face that tough hypothetical choice. This episode our hosts dive into genetic engineering, what it’s like for the human spirit to overcome adversity, and why Jude Law, Ethan Hawke, and Uma Thurman are great choices for their roles. We also get surprise appearances from Tony Shalhoub, Maya Rudolph, Xander Berkely (who is in everything), Elias Koteas, and Gore Vidal. This movie is packed with talent, so what could go wrong? Oh, we’ll tell you! Although the theme is so damn heavy-handed that it’s almost cringeworthy, this movie is still great! When judging a person by their looks goes horribly wrong, you get Tucker and Dale vs Evil!  This episode Dan and Tyler get into the minds of affable hillbillies Tucker and Dale as they face off against ruthless college students in the woods, reminiscent of all your favorite slasher films.
