  • Polestar 1 Exceeds Expectations, VW I.D. 2019 Production and Another LEAF Award | 11 Feb 2018

    Sunday 10th February 2018. On the podcast today…

    Volvo’s Polestar has had 5,000 expressions of interest for their plug in hybrid for their Polestar 1. Original plans were for 500 cars per year but that might be doubled to cope with demand. Official pre orders begin this spring for the 600bhp luxury car.

    VW has confirmed their I.D. range will start production in 2019. The pure electric EV platform will have a 250-350 mile range, a quick 0-60 time thanks and a 125kW motor. They aim to make 100,000 per year from 2020.

    The New Nissan LEAF wins Kelley Blue Book award for lowest ‘5 Year Cost To Own’.

    In India, where the Auto Expo 2018 is in progress, Tata Motors have unveiled two electrified models from their existing range. It’s the first steps Tata has made towards an electrified future.

    And finally, another fast charging network is coming to Europe with the backing of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.

    Two spy photographers have caught sight of a BMW iX3 plug in hybrid, in cold weather testing.

    Tesla are using their recent German acquisition to increase the efficiency of battery production in their Nevada factory.

    Subaru begins electrifying their range by using parts from their shareholder Toyota, and particularly their Prius Prime, beginning with a PHEV.

    Honda begin working with Salford University in the UK to trial their own V2G technology.

    China EV & PHEV sales were up in January 2018, with almost 40,000 sold last month, with the target of one million to be sold this year.

    And finally new from the Chicago Auto Show that their Sonata model will get the PHEV treatment with a 10kWh battery to give you 30 miles of all-electric range.

    More reaction from the Tesla earnings call with a few nuggets of news about Model S and X production, EV credits being a profitable part of Tesla, energy earning and when Model 3 will get to 10,000 a week.

    A fourth route of BYD electric buses helps clean the air on some of the most congested streets of London, UK.

    Chinese Didi Chuxing is partnering with Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi on their car sharing plans.

    There’s a new Hyundai Kona EV previewed with just one picture, but we’ll get more details later in February. It is rumoured to have a 64kWh battery which will give it at least 200 mile range.

    Geely has reportedly bought up shares in Daimler with a view to becoming their largest shareholder to access their EV technology.

    And finally it’s the first day of Auto Expo 2018 in India with plenty of electric cars expected to be showcased.

  • Model 3’s Torn Apart, EV Cheaper Than ICE and Porsche Bets Big | 8 Feb 2018

    A new independent report from North America says driving an electric car is significantly cheaper per year than an equivalent internal combustion engine.

    As more Tesla Model 3’s make their way into the hands of non-Tesla employees, only for other auto makers to snap them up and tear them apart.

    Sonders 3-wheeler EV is coming in 2019 priced at $10,000 with a range up to 200 miles and gorgeous Italian design.

    Porsche has confirmed an increased investment of 6 billion Euro in electrified transport.

    Just 50 carefully placed rapid charging locations in the UK could totally eliminate range anxiety.
