Evolution Security Podcast

We have Scott Jedlinski back for a 2nd show, going into a Red Dot deep dive, Scott's JiuJitsu journey, the crews current BJJ Fanatics video studies.  Scott also hits on the fallacy that some instructors are pushing which is that you don't need to focus on performance in your firearms training yet more on things you cant measure like awareness, tactics and what not; he explains why this is a falsehood.

Bio:

Scott "Jedi" Jedlinski of the Modern Samurai Project is a life long martial artist in TKD, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and shooting. He is a Master class shooter in USPSA and is one of the industry leaders in the use of red dot optics (RDOs) on pistols. He is one of the most sought after instructors in this quickly evolving technology in firearms.  This episode Aaron interviews Scott in a deep dive into the Red Dot Optics and their execution on pistols.  Scott provides master class tips on how to run them effectively and provides a contrast between RDOs and iron sights putting to bed so many of the often sighted issues with the technology.  Listen and get your learn on.

Scott has taught members of the Pentagon ERT, US Marshal's Service, NYPD Instructor Cadre, Chicago SWAT, Ohio Tactical Officers Association, and FBI National Tactical Training Unit and multiple other SWAT teams around the US and much more.

The purpose of our Gear and Mindset shows to to have fun with gear but also give recommendations on gear that helps us on the path, or info that can help us enhance our overall mindset.

This Gear and Mindset episode Aaron gives a great primer on terminal ballistics.  He then provides data on the viability of 380 as a defense caliber and his journey with building his ultimate red dot optic Glock 42 for a non-permissive environment.

The two reports Aaron used as reference:

AR15.com report based on Dr. Robert's and Dr. Fackler's data

Shoot the Bulls 380 report

Greg Ellifritz book Choose Adventure

Mindset:  We should all have a requisite level of cardio fitness, this can ward off hear disease and also preps us to deal with a physical fight or the ability to deal with the adrenalin dump and spiked heart rate we could experience in a life or death fight.

Heart Rate Monitors and Basic Aerobic Fitness -

https://www.8weeksout.com/

Episode 48 with Larry Lindenman

Max heart rate = 220 - your age ( This is only a rule of thumb, to know for sure have your doctor run a VO2 Max test).  In this case, Aaron and I are 48.  220 - 48 = 172 bpm

YOUR INDIVIDUAL AEROBIC HEART RATE ZONE IS A HEART RATE BETWEEN 70% AND 80% OF YOUR MAX HEART RATE

Aerobic zone  for Aaron and I, 120 - 137 ish. This is an estimate and is a zone

85-90% of max HR for anaerobic threshold:  For us that range is 146 - 154 bpm

As a comparison a 20 year old, Max HR = 200 and Aerobic threshold is 140-160 bpm and Anaerobic is 170- 180 bpm

Erics basic. cardio workouts:

Joel Jamisons Road Work 2.0. -  45 min to an hr of Aerobic work

Basically choose any cardio modality and do 5-10 min in each modality for 45-1 Hr.  Bike, rower, treadmill, JiuJitsu Solo Drills, Shadow Boxing, Kettle Bells, Jump Rope...etc, etc.

Basic Aerobic Threshold workout I do is 10 intervals of getting my hr to my Anaerobic threshold and then going all the way back down to 120 bpm and repeat.  Examples, sprint up hill, hit your Anaerobic Zone and stay in it for 20 sec, recover to 120 bpm, and repeat for 10-15 reps.

HR monitors discussed on the show:

Polar H10 - Polar beat apps so on so forth.

Garmin HRM-Dual

Eric's watch:  Garmin Instinct Solar

Lock Boxes for Vehicles

Eric's Vaultek Lifepod

Liberty Safe Handgun Vaults Small Key Vault

This does not constitute legal advice, Eric and Aaron on not lawyers nor claim to provide this information for that purpose.  This is for discussion sake.  If you have legal questions please consult with legal counsel in your jurisdiction.

Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted on all charges! This is a victory for liberty the 2nd Amendment and self defense law.  We believe that Kyle being charged at all was an injustice, as even a cursory understanding of the law of self defense and the evidence available in video shows cut and dry self defense.

We go over some lessons learned for all of us to consider.

You must have this book if you are serious about self-defense and staying out jail and the poor house (to use Tom Givens phrase):  The Law of Self Defense by Andrew Branca
