In amongst the giants of Philadelphia golf courses sits a quiet gem in Llanerch Country Club. Brendan Byrne has been there for 23 years as the golf course superintendent and co-general manager. When he first arrived, he recalls a golf course that was dark with trees and shade and a property that needed help. He set into place a game plan of water, agronomy and poa eradication. At first, he saw fairways that would purple out come fall but had plenty of phosphorous. Brendan has recently noticed that Philly has become the new Baltimore because the transition zone of weather has moved north and the summer weather is much harsher. He has done some amazing things to change and improve the golf course, the physical property, and the entire golfing experience. Brendan leaves us with a whole bunch of great advice for anyone growing grass.
