President Joe Biden released a statement confirming again his position on this International Women's Day, March 8th, which the United Nations recognized back in 1977. And a United Nations report tells of widespread human rights violations and crimes against humanity in the country of Nicaragua. The UN is also calling on the country's leaders to free Catholic Bishop Rolando Alvarez and other political prisoners. Senior writer for ACI Prensa, Walter Sanchez-Silva, joins to share his take on the report from the UN. Among the more than 200 political prisoners recently deported from Nicaragua to the United States, 5 were priests along with a deacon and 2 seminarians. Those priests and seminarians are now in Miami, Florida starting a new life in a new country. Pastor at St. Agatha's Parish in Miami, Fr. Marcos Somarriba, joins to share how they are doing and what he can tell us. Finally this evening, Pope Francis praised the role of women in the Church as part of his remarks on International Women's Day. It was part of a conference preparing for a gathering next year called "Women in the Church: Builders of Humanity." Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies on Women of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, Anita Cadavid, joins to tell us more about this conference.
