March 26, 2023 06 Are Nations Selfish? Realism and Social Studies from a Classical Catholic Perspective
Having discussed angels in antiquity, the New Testament, as well as in Christian and modern thought, we turn now to political realism, asking if nations are inherently and inextricably selfish. Schoolman Fawcett and Scholarch McLarney happened up a professional development presentation arguing Realism is the best explanatory tool for foreign policy in that nations act either
1) according to the “law of the jungle” of global affairs,
2) out of their own real or perceived self-interest, or
3) out of the interests of the elites.
Our discussion takes us from Machiavelli to the People Power Revolution of 1986 as we consider if nations are inevitably determined to act according to Realist theory.
